Agreed.

Because getting underwear put on your head is so much more of a human rights violation than having a full metal jacket 5.56 bullet blast through your head.

I’ll take the underwear any day, but I’m a glutton for punishment.
Probably two 9mm rounds- Seal Team shooters use the MP5 (or at least they did when I knew some of them back in the day) and they double-tap. That is probably one reason they won’t release the pictures. Not to be gruesome, but the damage may be such that the pictures would do little to convince anyone of his identity, while inflaming passions against us. Sounds like they made the right call. I am guessing the pictures will come out eventually, but they don’t need to come out right now.

My understanding is they scaled back the MP5 when the M4 was developed, but carry the 9MM SIG Sauer P226 pistol for extremely close combat or as a last resort weapon.

The only part of the entire story that has not changed is the agreement that UBL is dead.

I wonder if that will change too.
🤷

They used to carry specially tailored M1911 .45s for close work, with the MP5 as their main weapon. Regardless, a round from any of those to the head at close range is going to cause a lot of damage.

Enuff…

…about the photographs.

Somebody start a new topic and let’s talk about the newly found intel in the documents, CD’s and hard drives that were removed from the compound.

That’s worth talking about.

Sounds good to me…

See this article from Catholic Answers on just war doctrine, which quotes the following relevant Catechism passages under the section titled “Justice in War”:

The Church and human reason both assert the permanent validity of the moral law during armed conflict. The mere fact that war has regrettably broken out does not mean that everything becomes licit between the warring parties (CCC 2312).

Non-combatants, wounded soldiers, and prisoners must be respected and treated humanely. Actions deliberately contrary to the law of nations and to its universal principles are crimes, as are the orders that command such actions. Blind obedience does not suffice to excuse those who carry them out. Thus the extermination of a people, nation, or ethnic minority must be condemned as a mortal sin. One is morally bound to resist orders that command genocide (CCC 2313).

Sure.
Anyone else a little confused that we told the enemy we had the information?

At first I thought that was a litle strange too- then I just read that a wanted Al-Queda militant called Saudi Arabia and turned himself in. I guess Russia killed another one today maybe also. Perhaps this is truly the beginning of the end? And maybe that info is what is causing these things to happen…

I hope so.
Wouldn’t that be great.

Its not like they don’t know we raided the place and took whatever was there. Also, they haven’t given any details about what we learned. The fear that we know more than we actually do may well work to our advantage in some ways.

They’d have easily figured it out anyway. I s’pose if you follow that reasoning, and it is valid reasoning, then why not don’t tell anybody about the raid anyway and then tabulate all the found intel and then persue it. That would allow a lot more long tern impact on the terror cells for sure. But how difficult would it be to keep a lid on the Seal’s actions… Good question.

Someone sold the pictures to Reuters.

Drudge has the link.
Probably leaked by the Obama Admin. They get the pictures out and can deny any responsibility for what happens. Pretty good move I am surprised they thought of it

Sometimes I think that those pictures are mostly going to be interesting to people who just want to see blood and gore… kinda’ like pornography.

I see no redeeming value in even discussing the kill pictures other than as documentation of the fact.

Its not Osama… its 3 guys who were also killed.

The leaks will continue… and the stories will change about 10 more times.

Yeah, I figure that ‘officially’ there will be no release, but the White House will turn a blind eye and let them leak out. It’s pretty smart actually. That way, they can claim that they never authorized the photos.
Only problem is, no matter how they are released, in the end, they will be released, and any consequence the administration is trying to avoid could happen anyway…

If I am reading right… the Pakistanis sold them. They were taken after the US took Osama’s body out of the house.

Yes, yes, you are correct. The pictures were taken long after our guys had departed with bin Ladens body. I was merely thinking aloud that this may very well be how the bin Laden pictures are released- unofficially, with no supposed knowledge from the White House.
