The length of this thread reminded me of an old SNL gag…Generalisimo Francesco Franco is still valiantly holding on in his fight to remain dead. 😃

Well, our pastor spent a rambling 45 minute homily trying to tell us why we shouldn’t necessarily celebrate that evil mass murderers like bin Laden have been killed. Kind of implying that any action like the mission to kill him is tragically necessary but sad nonetheless.

As always, all I could think about was…Why doesn’t anyone ever talk about the ongoing holocaust of abortion? Over 3,000 INNOCENT babies were murdered just today, just in the US, and yet, we waste time and breath talking about a disgusting murderer like Osama bin Laden and worry that we might be celebrating a little too much about his death. Who spends time worrying that we might be celebrating IN SPITE of the fact that babies die, day in and day out, and what is done in the Church to stop it??? Other than priests like Fr. Frank Pavone, not very much that I can find.

Still sending my tithe to the local pro-life coalition…I was thinking that I should put one of those LED counter things up in the church, so people could see how many babies are killed every minute … as if I’d be allowed…
Amen. Your pastor had a good point and was no doubt addressing a topical issue in a sensitive manner but I am in full agreement with you. We are blessed to have an excellent priest but in some other parishes I have gone too the homily is anodyne platitudes. Let’s pray for our priests though - a really tough job.

Our preist came out and said it was great that Osama was dead, but was sadden by Obama’s attempt to capitalize on it.

I was a Hospital Corpsman stationed at NAS Coronado in support of the Navy’s Basic Underwater Demolition School. I am fully aware of what the SEALs are capable of. Just because they don’t “blubber” over the death of an enemy, that doesn’t mean they relish the idea of killing anyone either.
I didn’t say they did. But taking pictures of the late bin Laden is hardly going to wreck the psyche of a SEAL. They don’t join that unit to worry about such things.

Our priest never even mentioned it. 🤷
Mine neither. I’m glad he didn’t too. I don’t think it’s particularly relevant and see no reaason why priest should really bring it into mass. There were several kids getting first communion at mass too, so to talk about how great it is that some guy was killed recently right before would’ve been a bit inappropriate.

That marks the moment when I quietly would find another parish when the pulpit is used for naked politicking. At least if this is exactly how your priest approached this topic…
Me as well. That’s just not what the pulpit’s for.

I’ve been thinking about the same thing. I hope Seth Meyers brings it back.

Exactly. I left a Church for many years becsuse of something similar. I also would think it was inappropriate considering there is a high likelyhood that children are present.

I find it strange that Americans are still considering keeping Obama in office. It would be wrong to do so.

Well, the pundits have jumped on the bandwagon. Last night, Letterman had a schtick called “Hell Cam,” featuring Bin Laden watching the Letterman show in a dumpy room on a flickering old TV (actually, it was an improvement over the dump of a compound he had been holed up in,) and making comments about some of the Letterman jokes.

The schtick was so lame it needed a wheelchair.

Is there anyone else besides the White House that has no interest in the death being true or not that has confirmed the death?

Al Qaida confirmed it, is that good enough, or do you require al Qaida to proffer a long-form death certificate?

Hilarious!! Osama’s son is also asking for proof of death. Strange bedfellows?
