Plenty! For the players, there’s the opportunity to use one’s God-given physical talents in a team environment, so it promotes hard work, discipline, and teamwork. Not to mention the strategy involved in good play-calling.

It is a rabbit hole but this football should not be part of college at all. It is about money. As for the usual propaganda about teamwork and the other trite things they hold no water.

I am an ND alum ('99), and several of my closest friends there were on the team. I would have tried to walk on to the team myself had I felt I would have been able to handle both it and classwork. Each one of those friends was unquestionably enriched by his experience. It doesn’t matter if that’s trite, what matters is that it is good. As for the money aspect, money is only problematic if it causes priorities to shift from what they should be. That does happen a lot, and I lament that, but it doesn’t have to happen, as evidenced by many good programs. For the most part, I would say ND is one of the good ones.

Plenty! My daughters graduated from Ohio State and the University of Alabama. I’ve been entertained by their gridiron exploits on TV and in Tuscaloosa and Columbus for countless Saturdays.

not me, I think it was hilariously stupid to say given that the transcripts were to be made public. anything that gives Ohio? Ohio State? (is there a difference?) a black eye is cool with me.
