So what does one call the overturning of the Mexico City policy as one of the first acts as president, or fighting the Infants Born Alive Act as a state Senator?

The Mexico City policy? How many lives has it saved? In the countries we help, as in this country, most people have abortions because of reasons related to their socio-economic status, regardless of US abortion policies. It stands to reason then, that helping countries develop economically is the best way to decrease abortion and anything else has arguably little - if any - effect.

In the last presidential election I voted for Bob Barr. I didn’t feel there was a difference between Barrack Obama and John Mccain. I have had a clean conscience for almost four years.

Seriously, how anyone could interpret “pick up your cross and follow after me” could mean “elect someone into office so they can take your cross and put it on someone else’s shoulders” is beyond me.

This passage is interesting, considering some people’s take that Jesus was a prefiguration of Robin Hood.

Maybe CMatt25, who continually reminds us of our duty to the poor, can square chapter 26 with chapter 25.

Seekerz, you know that the “etch a sketch” comment was regarding the campaign.

Should we compare records on the 5 non-negotiables. There is a HUGE moral advantage, in words, and deeds.

I can’t see how any comparison would make sense, when he can shake the Etch a Sketch before we even finish speaking…And yes, that comment was in response to the issues he is campaigning on so it speaks directly to credibility of his stances. That, plus Romneycare and the tenets of his faith, are enough for me.

So you would run a campaign for the general election the exact same way you do a party primary?

I find it the height of irony, seeing posters who carried water for Obama here for close to four years, suddenly finding opposition to the very things Obama stands for.

The Catholic Church has never taken this verse to mean that we should abandon charity and be insensitive to the poor, not that any of this has to do with the Voris video. Rather, if one want “RealCatholic” teaching, then look to the shepherds, not the sheep.

I do not agree with most of what Democrats want as far as programs. I am totally against deficit spending. However, this is not a “Catholic” issue and has nothing to do with the existence of Hell.

Oh I know that. But our obligation to the poor is an individual one, not a compulsory one with punitive measure imposed by the state if we don’t comply.

I don’t take this reading as a statement that “it’s OK to be rich” if that is what you are getting at. If not I apologize.

This reading presents the royal and exalted nature of Churist, and as a foreshadow of his resurrection. It speaks of the honor due to the Lord and is part of why we have a hisotroy of fine art and beauty to glorify Him.

THis scriptures seems to be reflection of the personal relationship between the Christian and Christ.

Ringil said “the rich or even the middle class en masse…” I would not be surprised at all if some of the rich and some of the middle class are willing to give up all they have to the needy, for some have done just that, but I’ve got to support Ringil’s contention that it would not be an “en masse” action.

The priests job is to give us guidance on how to live the Gospel. It is contained within the graces of their ordinal sacrament.

Which is why I maintain that we are no longer the “United” States of America, and we should stop pretending that we are. The rift between right and left is irreconcilable. We should, for the sake of peace and civility, get a divorce and divide the assets.
