Well, LR, I see you still don’t quite understand the gospel after all this time. The Catholic point is that no matter how much we need God to orient the will, to establish “cooperation between God’s grace and man’s freedom”, man is always free to say “no” because,** “When God touches man’s heart through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, man himself is not inactive while receiving that inspiration, since he could reject it…” **(Both quotes from CCC 1993)
God bless Fahansen and every readers of the CAF.
CCC 1993 Justification establishes cooperation between God’s grace and man’s freedom. On man’s part it is expressed by the assent of faith to the Word of God, which invites him to conversion, and in the cooperation of charity with the prompting of the Holy Spirit who precedes and preserves his assent:
When God touches man’s heart through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, man himself is not inactive while receiving that inspiration, since he could reject it; and yet, without God’s grace, he cannot by his own free will move himself toward justice in God’s sight.
CCC 2022; “The divine initiative in the work of grace PRECEDES, PREPARES, and ELICITS the free response of man. …”
When we speaking about God’s graces to avoid confusion, we should always make it clear:
We are speaking about ** intrinsic and infallible efficacious graces,** like God’s grace of Initial justification or God’s special grace The Gift of Final Perseverance.
Or we speaking about graces which are not intrinsic and infallible efficacious graces, like God’s actual grace given to us to do good works like charity, etc.
We can freely choose to reject actual grace and not to cooperate with it or we can freely choose to cooperate with it.
Now let’s analyze CCC 1993;
Quote: “Invites him to conversion.” End quote.
For the conversion of the elect God gives intrinsic and infallible efficacious graces, if an elect would reject it, God would lose His omniscience.
**The Catholic Church affirms predestination as a *DE FIDE *Dogma (the highest level of binding theological certainty).
CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA
THE CATHOLIC DOGMA. – The predestination of the elect.**
Consequently, the whole future membership of heaven, down to its minutest details, has
been IRREVOCABLY FIXED FROM ALL ETERNITY. Nor could it be otherwise. For if it
were possible that a predestined individual should after all be CAST INTO HELL or that
one not predestined should in the end REACH HEAVEN, then God would have been
MISTAKEN in his foreknowledge of future events; He would NO LONGER be omniscient.
God’s unerring foreknowledge and foreordaining is designated in the Bible by the beautiful
figure of the “Book of Life” (liber vitæ, to biblion tes zoes). This book of life is a list which
contains the names of ALL THE ELECT and admits NEITHER ADDITIONS NO ERASURES.
**THE THEORY OF PREDESTINATION prævisa merita
THIS THEORY, CHAMPIONED BY all Thomists and a few Molinists (as Bellarmine, Francisco Suárez, Francis de Lugo):**
Asserts that God, by an absolute decree and without regard to any future supernatural merits, predestined from all eternity certain men to the glory of heaven, and then,
in consequence of this decree, decided to give them all the graces necessary for its accomplishment. End quote.
At the point when an intrinsic and infallible efficacious grace given, God immediately touches and DIRECTLY MOVES THE HEART OF MAN by orienting towards to freely accept and freely choose these intrinsic and infallible efficacious graces, every man always responds freely and positively. – This is an infallible works of God in man’s HEART and WILL and
man always positively responds and freely cooperates.
If even one elect in all Christian history would reject this graces and end up in hell, God would lose His omniscience,
DE FIDE Dogma.
**What should we say than about intrinsic and infallible efficacious graces?
Well we could say:**
If an elect could destroy God’s omniscience, than
he could reject his conversion and he could reject God’s intrinsic and infallible efficacious graces.
CCC 1993;
Quote: “invites him to cooperation of charity.” End quote.
For the elect for cooperation of charity God gives actual grace.
As God’s elect, we can freely choose to reject actual grace and not to cooperate with it or we can freely choose to cooperate with it.
**Of course it is very important that we should always cooperate with actual grace as well. **– I certainly do my best out of sheer love and for the Glory of God and out of sheer love for others.
God bless Fhansen and every readers of the CAF.
