Mark 10:6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[a] 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.’[c] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. (NIV)

And that’s why the Church bans marriage between couples who cannot become one flesh. Physical union is very important to God as well as us.

Hey, you know that if you need someone to defend Catholic sexual norms, my door is about the last you should knock on…

There are a lot of people out there whose mothers thought they were postmenopausal.

Oh, mine, too. Sorry if my post was misleading or offensive. It’s just that you posted the very answer to a question I had just asked. I wasn’t trying to make a statement about you or use your post in a way you didn’t intend.

Catholic sexual norms don’t really interest me. As I’ve stated, I depart from the Church in several areas.

Again, apologies.

No apology needed. I said that tongue-in-cheek.

The flaws of the written medium, right?

Yes, it can be difficult to get some things across on a discussion board. Glad I didn’t offend.
But seriously, the Church won’t let a man marry in it who’s, say, paralyzed from the neck-down because he can’t perform the marital act?

Am I understanding that correctly?

I mean, I know relations are central to marriage, but in extreme cases like this there isn’t an exception?

Yes, that’s true. Because he cannot consummate his marriage and become one flesh with his wife. Frankly, I think it’s uncharitable of the Church.

🤯🤯:exploding_head:Mind. Blown.🤯🤯🤯

It gets worse. The Church says if they cannot have sexual relations, they can just live as brother and sister. 😱

This isn’t the thread to get all riled up about marriage doctrine. Make a new one if that’s what you want to focus on. This is about contraception and sexual “freedom” in today’s world.

It seems that you’re talking about marrying the impotent now. Make a new thread for that, don’t hijack this one.

Sorry man. I’ll segue…

So how about those parapalegics and quadrapalegics and their lack of need for contraception and the Church’s prohibition on their sexual freedom?

That rile anyone up?

But they will gladly marry a couple who has been living in sin for years and even has kids. I guess they are just glad they are finally marrying and not being promiscuous. Any longer, that is.

There, we’ve come back to “sexual freedom.”

the Catholic church only validly marries those without unrepented mortal sin.

Still won’t be a valid marriage. They’ll be profaning the sacrament the same way those who recieve communion in a state of mortal sin do.
