Jesus did not say “I will establish my churches”. Or “my bodies”. Therefore, all true believers are members of the same Church, the same Body. Since the early first century that Church was called Christian, and from the early second century it was also called Catholic.

Jesus did pray in John 17:21 that we would all be “one” as He and the Father are One, and if we juxtapose Protestantism with Catholicism we see Catholicism as one (having unity) in liturgy (worship) and doctrine (belief), neither of which Protestant’s posess.

In the first century to be a Christian was to be baptized in water and Trinitarian form. And are you saying that all Christian churches are unified? If so, then how can that be a one body? It can’t if it doesn’t act in unicen with itself.
 
It is better for the Catholic Church to cut off its members as Jesus said than to go to Hell with all its members.

The Catholic Church has cut off the heretics for 2,000 years.

That is the way the truth survives by not letting it have anything to do with what is untruth!

I don’t deny that the body is very crippled, and does not work as it was intended.

Then you say that God isn’t big enough that when we screw it up He can’t make it work the way He wants it to. It’s something to think about.

We ARE one body. The Body of Christ. And hand does not work as a foot does nor does a leg work like a nose. We are all different working for the same goal. To bring Christ into this world as HE intends. Why is this so hard to take? 🤷 We can’t all be hands, nor can we all be feet. If we were all left feet it would make for a VERY sad dance… 😛

God is able, certainly. He has already given us all we need to solve these problems of disunity. It is ignorance and pride that keep us divided. I don’t know why the concept of unity is so hard to take. Another thread recently started about the Pope’s announcment that there is only one Church, and people are offended by it.

And the people that are offended don’t even recognize the Pope as the Vicar of Christ! If they reject the Pope’s authority, why do they even care what he thinks? I think it’s rather funny, in a sad sort of way.

It is the same as when catholics get all riled up about what a protestant thinks of catholocism. The protestant has no authority and yet it puts a lot of ‘shorts’ in a bunch! 🤷

There is a difference between certain Protestant theories and the Church’s concern for her children. It is often unfair to compare a question about why a person who denies Papal authority chafes at a Vatican pronouncement and why a Catholic responds to Protestant theories or comments.

One of the difficulties with certain Protestant approaches is the notion that truth can be private – this has reached its extreme in the “relativist” theories of popular culture. These theories hold that love for a person can be expressed by letting him believe a mistaken teaching. Put in bald terms, the Church cannot accept any theory, whether it is called “secular” or “Protestant,” that asserts that one can love a person from one’s heart, while not attending to what that person thinks.

Theories of love following this approach are contrary to true intimacy. They regard behavior as more important than inter-personal connection, knowledge, and thus self-donation.

As St. Paul puts it: “[The Savior] desires all men to be saved and to come to full knowledge of the truth” (1 Tm 2:4). The Church cannot in good faith seek to fulfill this second clause, unless each Catholic cares what others think – even our brethren who are separated from full union with the Church.

Jesus’ new commandment was to “love one another as I have loved you.” Yet, Jesus always knew what was in men’s hearts (see, Jn 2:24-25; cf. Lk 5:22; Lk 6:8). The two are connected. We cannot abandon concern for the second, in favor of quietus or any other “public interest.”
