Padre Pio 'faked his stigmata with acid'

The article making this claim is outrages, preposterous and negates the principle of balance in reporting events. Did the author of the article bother to consult church authorities? even the claim of procuring carbonic acid and regular sex were never coroborated by any other source.
I believe the author of that piece is simple looking for cheap attention and the easiers way to get it is through active anti - catholicism. The writer left no one with doubt as to his furstration. The man that God has exalted no man can bring down and of course if Jesus Christ our God and redeemer was called Belzebub we should not be scandalized at the name and mud slinging on our princes in the church.
My prayer for him is that God will have mercy on him.

Padre Pio was a man of God who was the greatest Saint of the twentieth century. He had the stigmata for over 50 years. One person said he used acid to fake it. One person found this out over a fifty year period. I’m sure if Padre Pio was faking his stigmata more than one person would of known about it? Also when he died there were no marks on Padre Pio. Now if he would of been applying acid I would imagine scars would of been left? This claim by Luzzatto has made me very angry and upset. Padre Pio is no longer on this earth to defend himself and it’s up to us Catholic to defend him. Already atheist sites are jumping on the band wagon and deriding Padre Pio. We know how holy Padre Pio was and I for one wouldn’t of remained a Catholic with out Padre Pio. Why? Because I realised what happened in Jesus’ life occurred because Padre Pio performed similar miracles in his life. And there is your clue as to why Padre Pio is attacked because the secular world doesn’t want people to follow the Christian faith. Let’s call Luzzatto what he is - a follower of Satan trying to lead the Faithful astray and denying them eternity in heaven with Jesus.

I’ve read about Padre Pio’s life from sources very favorable to him. I came away with the firm conviction that he was either a fraud or a serious mental case. We may excuse the latter, but it is much more difficult to excuse the former.
The Catholic Church severely damages itself when it gets caught up in such superstition. No wonder so many Catholics in Europe have forsaken their Catholic heritage. We don't live in the Middle Ages any longer, and intelligent, well-educated people want a reasonable faith.

Honestly buddy, get a life.

You have very clearly NOT read up on Padre Pio’s life, because if you did, you’d realize, first, the catholic church thought he was faking it. Second, they thought he was crazy. Third, they realized he was for real.

If you’re comming here for a cheap pot shot at the catholic faith, do so somewhere else.

Other wise, do some actual reading on the subject. TRUST ME, these issues came up during his cannonization, and were heavily scrutinized.

If anything, the church maintains it’s credibility by giving credit where credit’s due. And either way, I really don’t think you’re to be the judge of an issue like that in the first place.

I chalk this one right up there with the attacks accusing JPII of refusing a feeding tube until it was too late in order to expedite his demise and the attacks by Christopher Hitchens on Bl. Mother Teresa.

Satan and his minions will always attack the Church and her saints but Christ is more powerful than him and will win. Pray for the author of the book and the writer of the article, as well as all those who read it. Just don’t let this garbage disturb your peace.

Perhaps Luzzatto could demonstrate how it works with his own hands. Shouldn’t be a problem for him.
 
When Padre Pio died, they examined his hands for evidence of scar tissue and they found none. Surely, if he used acid to cause the stigmata he would have scarred his hands.

However, the evidence shows that his wounds were completely healed upon his death and they left no mark upon his flesh.
 
I suppose it is wise to question everything for authenticity. Let’s look at the whole picture. We have a man who followed Christ throughout his life, was humble in every conceivable way, was poor and had no desire for wealth, shy’ed away from any and all attention directed towards him, was full of love for all he met and thought nothing of himself.

What would a person such as this have to gain by doing something so counter to his nature.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, it ain’t no giraffe.

Right. Let me ask you something. Are you one of those “Christians” who say that Jesus didn’t really raise from the dead etc. because well, you can’t fall into this “ancient superstition” in the 21th century, or can you…?

Catholics in Europe forsaking their heritage has nothing to do with the Church affirming miracles. They are not looking for a “reasonable faith”. If they were, then they would be fine with Catholicism, which is very reasonable indeed.

Rather what they are looking for is a faith in which they are able to do what they feel like doing and not feel guilty about it. That, in essence, is the faith that a great many people in the modern era wish for.

Well, just that fact that it’s coming from the “independent” Independent makes it an absolute…well, you know. 😉

And don’t forget that he was canonized and canonizations are infallible.
