“Perdition” is only one possible translation. Many translations use “destruction.” The Greek word is apōleia, which according to Strong’s can mean “ruin or loss (physical, spiritual or eternal):—damnable(-nation), destruction, die, perdition, X perish, pernicious ways, waste.” It’s dangerous to use an English translation of Scripture for formulating doctrines or beliefs, as translations are always interpretation of the translator.

None mean peace.

But I will bow out of this. It’s about Fr. Martin

I thought I remembered someone further up thread mentioning his death mask. Either I dreamt it or it’s been removed. It’s a sad state of my psyche if I dream forum posts.

ANYWAY, I followed the suggestion to look it up. The mask is horrifying! Why would they paint it?! That’s what made it so frightening. They should have left it plain as so many other death masks have been.

Edit: maybe it wasn’t painted maybe the one is a cast from it or wax gets creepy over time.

It was used as part of a larger statue of him at times, so they made it look realistic.

This reminds me of a prayer I pray when I pray the rosary.

O my Jesus
Forgive us our sins
Save us from the fires of hell
And lead all souls into heaven
Especially those in most need of thy mercy

I think all souls means just that, all souls

Every time I start to think of the possibility of someone in hell, I say the above prayer.

Yes, and notably, if one believes in the Fatima apparitions, this prayer was given by Mary herself. To me, that indicates that God wants our hope and prayer to, above all things, be for the salvation of all, even those we may normally give up on.

hmmm… something tells me that my Lutheran friends would not appreciate this 🤔
Perhaps not but that shouldn’t matter, it would be good for us to pray for our Lutheran, and all protestant friends for their coming home to the Catholic church, out of love for their souls.
