I’m not sure the historical data does support the quantitative estimates made by the author. I would put more weight on his assessment of the risk of suicide due to economic impacts if he were a public health professional. But he is a CFA. I would trust what he says about my chances in the stock market or how to balance my portfolio, but I don’t think he has any special expertise in the causes of suicide. As I said, a public health expert would know better.Given there is historical data to support both, why would you cherry pick one set, unless your goal is to destroy people’s lives?
