Parish Dissent from Church Teaching

This month is the so-called ‘Pride Month’, where homosexuality is ‘celebrated’. This is in complete contradiction to Church teaching.
Has the pride event completely swung the other way than it’s initial goal, becoming overly inappropriate and (depending on dress code enforcement not family friendly). Absolutely!

However after generations of having people overtly or subtly ostracized it’s only natural that they’d want a little space and freedom to celebrate being who they are.

Imagine every time you attended Mass, you had to fear the police busting in the door and arresting you, your friends, your priest, etc.

Sure, gay sex is inappropriate per Church canon, and I myself think that some of the pride parades should be a bit more solemn and reflective…but can you blame a community for going bananas after finally getting that freedom to kiss in public, hold hands, be represented in Hollywood, etc.?

Anyway, I don’t think the message that Pride is attempting to give is contrary to Church teaching, but I do think those that hypersexualize it are out of line.

I, for one, will be wearing normal clothes, (except adding a nice rainbow scarf) at the pride festival, eating some hamburgers and funnel cake while there, and watching a mini documentary on Stonewall.

I believe it is our responsibility, when our clergy fails us, to take up the duty to uphold Church teaching.
Didn’t Marin Luther use this logic to approach what he believed to be Christ’s teaching?

Exactly. Funny how few posters have addressed the issue, seizing instead on any phrasing that doesn’t seem “welcoming” toward homosexuals. “Welcoming” being code for celebrating homosexuality, among the Martin disciples.

To be fair, I don’t think OP is troubled because gay people are attending Mass. I think the issue is that individual priests are sending the message that active homosexuality is a-ok, go ahead and do it.
I thought that the priests were just affirming gay people for being gay, and not condoning their sexual activity.

But if the priest is preaching or insinuating something against churchs teaching, it may be worth reporting it higher in the diocese

what’s unfortunate is that anyone holds the belief sinners aren’t welcome

Wow, I guess it really is true!
A “Pride Mass.”
Makes the “Clown Mass” sound orthodox, in comparison.

Celibate people who have same sex attraction I hold nothing against; they carry a hard cross but lay down joys for Christ which is so admirable and beautiful. I do of course think that CHASTE people who have same sex attraction should be able to be active parish members
For reference purposes

You are not “old fashioned”. You are in line with the true moral teachings of the Church.

We all have the Eucharist and prayer to meet our particular challenges.

Yes, and homosexuals already have that. But it’s not enough. The push is for acceptance of their sexual activity as healthy, natural, and not sinful.

Certainly less harmful…

The church is meant to teach people how to find God and how to build an intimate relationship with Him. It’s not easy, it’s not popular, and it’s not “chic” but it is what it is. For a church to KNOWINGLY lead people deeper into the power of sin and reject intimacy with the one who is all out soul truly needs is…frankly, a horrific tragedy.

I can’t imagine NJ is any different than here. Here the LGBTQ+ community is VERY clear that refraining from acting on homosexual inclination is antithetical to being homosexual. They are VERY clear that it means embracing that sexuality fully. Pride is about being openly gay and acting on it, not living chastely. And this knowledge comes from what I see in passing when trying to navigate the cluster of towns where I live where a parade happens just about every weekend in the month of June. Their signs are clear…

For the church to KNOWINGLY lead its own people astray…well, I believe Jesus had words about that…

“But whoso shall cause one of these little ones who believe in Me to fall, it were better for him that a millstone were hung about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

It seems it’s a mercy and act of love to call these parishes on these things. Unless they are VERY CLEAR in their intent that they are “accepting the people, not the actions” and promoting biblical sexuality (and that would cause an outcry, at least in my area! There certainly wouldn’t be a “second annual” Mass…) then…well. Again, Jesus doesn’t mince words here. “Support LGBTQ+” has a VERY defined context, culturally.

That is precisely stated. And until we all accept that, we will be labeled “homophobic”'and “unloving,” no matter how little concerned we are about the sexual orientation of those around us in the pews.

When “the push is for acceptance of their sexual activity” as healthy, natural and not sinful"…it is definitely not in line with Catholic teaching. Loving correction is needed.

Much prayer and sacrifice is necessary to be inline with Catholic teaching.

Yeah it does kill me that “unloving” is the term used. It shows how little they understand the intent. Knowing God has been the single greatest joy in my life. Rooting out sin in my life so as to grow nearer to him has been a wonderful (albeit, painful at times!) process that I dearly wish all would experience. Renouncing sin, especially when its hard, so others can experience God by looking at him and not sin is the single greatest loving thing anyone can do for another!

We all have vices. I certainly do. But unlike the LGBTetc activists in the Church, I don’t broadcast those vices. And I don’t agitate for them to be no longer considered vices…maybe even transformed into virtues (e.g. “just another alternate form of loving physical expression”)

The sinner part is easy enough, but I want to start seeing more of a hospital.

Exactly!! It’s like the difference of someone say, who struggles with looking at porn, vs wearing a playboy bunny t-shirt to Mass, or handing out magazines to parishioners…

Could you imagine a “Support the porn industry” Mass at a church that wasn’t centered around praying for all those people to be delivered from that lifestyle?
