I’ll vote for Rand Paul in the primaries, but the GOP will never let him get the nomination, so I guess then I’d vote for Jesse Ventura in November, providing he runs. At least he is willing to come out and say we need a revolution.
Code:

I wonder if this takes into account the fact that senators haven’t won too many elections since JFK? And Obama only because he was running against another Senator.

I am in hopes that after the Obama wins every Catholic will think before they cast their precious vote for Hillary Clinton…her stint as SOS was a total failure especially with the Benghazi tragedy.
Sadly, I wouldn’t count on politically liberal Catholics. They have the ability to twist Church teaching in a way that they actually think that they are more in line with the Church.

I thought you said you wanted a fiscal conservative Republican. That is what Christie is. Or do you want a far right guy like Cruz? If you don’t think Christie is a fiscal conservative, how do you define the term?
I did say that I wanted a strong fiscal conservative. But that is not all. Romney was a strong fiscal conservative. Moderate Republicans just can’t win. I think the problem might be one of trust. People didn’t trust McCain or Romney. They were honest enough (IMO). But I wonder if moderates are viewed as Democratic lite?

Bingo! Ding, ding, ding! Winner, winner chicken dinner! :bluelite::bluelite::bluelite::bluelite:

Is it Democrat or Democratic??? I’m don’t want to get pummeled for using the wrong term! :slapfight::stretcher::crutches:

Haha, I’m a bit of a lefty in some ways and I picked Christie. He’s certainly not what I would call right wing either, he’s seems more like a Democrat in a lot of ways.
I think Christie would win against Hillary. I’m guessing a lot of Rand Paul types would sit it out, preferring to see Hillary win than to see Christie win. But I think a lot of Independents and not a few Democrats would vote Christie. I think “mainstream” Repubs would swallow Christie faster than they did Romney.

the unbeatable ticket of course would be Christie/Manchin. Yes, i know, it would practically take an Act of God to get that done, because Manchin is (at least presently) a Democrat. But nobody could beat them as a team, either. Right or wrong, (and I think wrongly) the broad mass of the public is probably center-right, but has been so thoroughly poisoned against extremely conservative Repubs that one of them has little chance. but I think the public has had it with the far left as well. Against Rand Paul or Rubio or most any other Repub, I think Hillary wins.

Democrats and the media (one and the same?) haven’t had their chance to rip into Christie. They only love him now. They loved Romney prior to him winning the primary.

Why in the world would a Democrat vote for Christie when he could vote for a real Democrat - Hillary??

They don’t love Christie. They just hate him less than Rubio or other right wing Republicans.

Christie seems to be the only Repub potential candidate that can give as good as he gets, and he’s more clever than the media people are. The media will rip him like they ripped Romney (even before the primary) but he really is capable of giving it back and making a point in the process; something most Repub candidates don’t seem capable of doing.

Who would NOT want to see a Christie/Hillary debate?

Personally, I have had all the romanticism of lost wars that I want. I would like to see the leftist trend reversed. I would like to see a prolife person appoint the next Supreme Court justice(s). I would like to see a proven manager in the white house, and I would like to see fiscal responsibility.

I think a lot of people would.

Rubio is going to alienate conservatives with his immigration compromises, by the way. He can sugar coat it all he wants, but he’s “amnesty first, border enforcement someday”, which is the opposite of what most conservatives really want.

Okay…so, where is Christie on immigration?

Except conservatives are not one issue people. I’d rather have a Rubio with whom I might disagree on immigration, than a Hillary by any stretch.

As for the debates, yea, I’d like to see that too…with an unbiased moderator. That Candy Crowly debate really soured me.

I think if Chris Christie was the nominee, the same thing would happen that happened with Mitt Romney, millions of Republicans not voting. Why nominate another moderate when so many have lost the race to become president?

Doesn’t matter. He can probably capture more Hispanic votes than Rubio IMO.
Based on what?

I’m challenging Ridgerunner because his beef with Rubio is on immigration. What if Christie’s stance is the same? 🤷 I can’t find anything about where he stands. It’s not logical to claim candidate A will alienate voters because of a stance, while promoting candidate B whose stance on the same issue is unknown.

That’s why I am undecided and a in a wait-and-see mode.

Exactly my concern, as stated earlier. Conservatives won’t like him; Democrats won’t vote for him…dead on arrival.

If a candidate does not appeal to the base of the Republican party, to the grassroots, it is doubtful the nominee would win.

I bet Chris Christie would be a candidate that would also put issues such as abortion and the redefinition of marriage in the background, compared to a more conservative candidate. Brookings Institution and Public Research Institute did a survey in which they found social conservatives outnumber fiscal conservatives, so putting social conservative issues to the side is not a good thing

Yes. 👍 We need to excite the Republican party. Not sure Hillary will really get the Blacks to come out and vote as Obama did.
