Paul leads GOP NH field 2016, Hillary leads Dems

Herbert Hoover, Alf Landon, Wendell Willkie, Thomas E Dewey nominated twice, Gerald R Ford, Bob Dole, John McCain, Mitt Romney - all moderates, all lost. George H.W. Bush was a moderate who lost reelection.

Three million Republicans did not vote in 2012. Where those Republicans lived, whether it would of given the electoral college to Mitt Romney, I am not sure, but he would of won with the popular vote if those Republicans had voted for Mitt Romney. People have speculated why they didn’t vote and it probably has to do with Mitt Romney being seen as too moderate.:cool:

The only way the Republicans are going to beat Hilary is with a woman. I support Governor Martinez from New Mexico.

I think the ideal ticket would be Martinez/Rubio and I think the convention should be in Albuquerque New Mexico.

Martinez would stop all the Republicans are waging a war against women malarky from the Democrats and would counter the wanting of the first woman President in Hilary with a woman President in Martinez!. With Martinez the Republicans could get the Hispanic vote and could carry New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada. Rubio would cinch Florida for the Republicans and with the Martinez Rubio ticket you would get more of the Catholic vote for the Republicans.

Run a old white man pure conservative and the Republicans will lose in a tidal wave.

The Republicans missed a great chance to have Colin Powell on a ticket.

Don’t miss the great chance to have a woman and TWO Hispanics on the ticket–plus Rubio will unite the party because the conservatives like him.

And PLEASE pass some kind of immigration reform so the Republicans won’t have that albatross around their neck.

Doubtful. We may or my not have a Republican, but I don’t expect Hillary to even win the primary. i hope she does though…it would improve GOP chances.

Instead of Rubio change it out to Bobby Jindal. Aren’t his parents from India? Need to spread the “not a white guy” mix around a bit more.

Your post gets to the heart of it though. Many people will vote for Clinton simply because she’s a woman. I know many that voted for Barack Obama for the same reason. I remember a black actress that got ripped on as a traitor because she didn’t support Obama. I am sure if Hillary runs against a male Republican any woman will be chastised for not voting for one of their sisters.

I saw a show a few months back where people were shown pictures of two candidates from local election and asked who won. Even when people knew nothing about the candidates they still picked the winner something like 90%+ of the time. It all came down to who was more “trustworthy” based purely on appearance.

Unfortunately we live in a media age where image is more important than substance. A great smile is more important than leadership. I hate to say it, but you are better off putting a likable pretty face up for president with a more hardline VP that would actually drive agenda.

I know it is taboo to bring up age (especially for a woman!), but Hillary Clinton will be 69 years old in 2016. If elected, she would be the same age that Ronald Reagan was in his first election…and she ain’t no Ronald Reagan. Age was brought up as a factor for McCain, and I think it is fair to point out that an elderly white woman is not necessarily going to fare well against a younger candidate, especially if she does more cackling and/or does the southern drawl bit. She is a terrible campaigner. I don’t think being a woman will overcome that, even with all the help she is getting in the press.

I tend to agree, but I also think some people will see woman before they will see 69. I was more thinking that the Dems will be looking for someone that is unique. Maybe something that’s never been done before. Many people seem to want to vote to be part of history (“I voted for the first black/female/gay/transgender/etc president”). Whether that will be a young affable candidate, a woman, or a minority they seem to be dialed in on the fact that most people vote on emotion not logic. That is to Republican detriment when they don’t put a likable candidate up.

That reminds me of a hilarious skit (I think it was Not Necessarily The News…something British). In a board room, they are discussing bringing on a new board member, and one of the men says it should be a woman…then recommends she be black…then recommends she be Lesbian…and finally that she be disabled. After he leaves the room, one of the other board members says, there goes Johnson…always taking the nepotism route. 😃

Haha, I’m a bit of a lefty in some ways and I picked Christie. He’s certainly not what I would call right wing either, he’s seems more like a Democrat in a lot of ways.
 
I’ll vote for Rand Paul in the primaries, but the GOP will never let him get the nomination, so I guess then I’d vote for Jesse Ventura in November, providing he runs. At least he is willing to come out and say we need a revolution.

Look, Hillary has already been grilled on Benghazi. Her “what difference does it make” statement did nothing to cool her fans. It doesn’t matter what she says, her fans will vote for her. Look at Obama and all his lies. Hasn’t cooled of his base.

Back in 2008, I had a very liberal acquaintance who said she would vote for a woman no matter who. I couldn’t believe it. I looked her straight in the eye and questioned her. She looked right back at me and repeated her statement. This was before Sarah Palin and Obama. When Sarah Palin came into the mix, her excuse was Sarah was not running for president. Quite the opposite of what those against McCain were claiming. (A nutcase one heartbeat away from the presidency).

I am a Republican and not a tea party member. The tea party lead government shut down damaged our reputation badly and the tea party is dividing our party in half. Republicans are very unpopular now. And I think this will garuntee a democrat victory in the congress in 2914. I don’t think this is the way to go.

Paul and Cruz are tea party radicals, not Republicans. I voted for the Republican in the Texas primary and not Cruz the tea party candidate. Other Republicans real Republicans are fast shying away from Cruz who is becoming more unpopular daily.

Susana Martinez gave an interesting speech at the RNC convention in 2012 and she has got a high approval rating among Hispanics in her state, but I do not think Susana Martinez has a large enough national profile at this stage to perhaps compete with Rand Paul or Ted Cruz.

I think the Republican nominee will likely be male and if Hillary Clinton is the nominee and maybe even if she is not, the Republican will almost certainly have to have a female vice president. It will be needed to gain ground with female voters and to beat the war on women rhetoric.
