I was using hypebole as if the science is there, and if it is permitted, it will be done. (I am referring to the creatures of Greek and Egyptian mythology).

What we have today is the taking of human genes and splicing them with animal genes and vice versa for medical reasons. And this article goes back to 2005 and a lot has changed since then:

**Some researchers have created embryos with genetic material from both a human and an animal, also known as chimeras. Most claim this is for research purposes only, and such embryos would never be implanted or brought to term. But some bioethicists are unwilling to draw a line that would prevent it. For example, Jason Scott Robert and Francoise Baylis assert that they take “no stance at all” on whether “interspecies hybrids or chimeras from human materials should be forbidden or embraced.” But much of their article is devoted to their contention that “the arguments against… creating novel part-human beings… are largely unsatisfactory.”

The prospect of such human-animal chimeras being born raises a number of troubling questions. Does such an organism have human rights? What if it were 99.9% human and 0.1% chimpanzee? What of the reverse situation? **

We already have cats that now glow in the dark due to genetic splicing, and goats that produce spider milk.

Ok, so they don’t exist. 🤷

That’s above our pay grade, as they say. Best to let the Church decide that, if such an issue ever arose, and then follow Her teaching on the matter. I don’t mean that as a cop-out. That’s why we have the Magisterium after all.

It just seemed like you were very concerned that Ryan might be supporting abortion in very limited cases…it sounded like you were implying you couldn’t vote for him in that case. Sorry for getting crazy with my assumption. 🙂
**My great concern is that Paul Ryan has been portrayed as a faithful Catholic…my question is what is true…he is a faithful Catholic or he supports abortion in the cases of rape?

These do not go together in the faith I practice.**

Keep in mind that only 20% of Americans think that abortion should be illegal in all cases, where including a provision that abortion be allowed only in a few circumstance then adds
enough when added to those who totally oppose, to constitutes a majority view, or close to it.

Mr. Romney needs to win over a majority, not just 20%, so he has to pretend to represent more than the one percent I his tax and income class.

Discussions of politics (discussing particular candidates, asking who to vote for, etc.) among CAF members is acceptable only in the World News sub-forum. There is a Paul Ryan thread there where this discussion is welcome.

If you wish to discuss the morality of voting for a candidate of a particular religious affiliation without naming names, you may start such a thread in Moral Theology.
