Romney: “I don’t - there’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda.”

He simply stated that, to his knowledge, he is unaware of any specific pending legislation on abortion that he would incorporate into his agenda. He may propose legislation or entertain future legislation, if proposed by Congress. I conclude his statement is not a change of position at all.

Again, it seems Romney should be able to speak for himself.

You quoted Romney so he IS speaking for himself. You simply misinterpreted him or you don’t understand the point. There is no current legislation with regard to abortion that can become part of his platform. Why do you continue to argue the point that Romney didn’t make?

We ought not be led off topic. There already is a thread about this.

Romney has yet again changed his position on abortion. At what point does good political strategy become plain deceitfulness. If one claims abortion is the main driver for their vote, are we just to ignore this strategic move back to the center? Otherwise, as I suspected, it’s more of a hate for Obama that is the driver not the actual policies.

And the change is?

How is it looking there, amica mia?
A poll released by We Ask America on Oct. 2 shows McCaskill had a lead of less than a percentage point over Akin, 46 to 45.2; that’s less than the margin of error, with 8.8 percent of voters undecided. However, Public Policy Polling numbers show McCaskill up, 46 to 40, with 9 percent for Libertarian Jonathan Dine and 5 percent undecided.

I don’t hear it talked about very much, but that may be because I listen to NPR.

Obama has made clear he doesn’t feel he should be paying less in taxes than middle class, blue collar workers. He wants to increase his own taxes and believes that it is necessary to strengthen our economy.

The majority of this thread is about Romney and Obama. Probably because other than Ryan’s budget and his religious affiliation, he has no real significance in this race.
You are dead wrong about that. Ryan is well known for his expertise in economic matters, something sadly lacking in the entire Obama administration. He is well experienced in how legislation is enacted whereas Romney understand the executive side of things. Ryan’s Road to Prosperity was the foundation for the budgets he has proposed. He is a deep thinker, a numbers guru and a man of great principle.

Further he is an outstanding communicator. He can explain complex budget and economic matters in a way that heck even Joe Biden might understand!

Along with his deep faith and his values that I share, Ryan has political courage, another missing element in the Obama administration. When he first proposed his budgets, his plans to make Medicare and Social Security solvent, he was attacked by both left and right. He didn’t back down but simply and effectively explained HOW his plans would work. He now is THE spokesman for the Republican economic proposals.

Ryan is an extremely valuable part of this ticket. In saying he’s not important I have to believe you are not well acquainted with him or his policies.

You never disappoint, Lisa. Ever the Romney and Ryan devotee. I admire your daring to say that expertise in economic matters is something sadly lacking in the entire Obama Administration. The entire Administration? As Seinfeld would have said, “Really?” 🤷

If they had any expertise in economic matters, we wouldn’t have a $16 trillion debt and annual deficits of $1 trillion plus.

Rich, just look at the results. If the Obama Administration has anyone that could right the economy they are keeping that person in an undisclosed location. The economy is a DISASTER. This is really really bad and if you are in a business as I am, you know the uncertainty, the over-regulation, the tax burden coming all serve to keep businesses from expanding or hiring.

Everything they’ve tried has flopped. The Stimulus bill was money wasted and a huge debt incurred. Obamacare is paralyzing the healthcare industry as well as hiring. Dodd Frank has made it nearly impossible to get a loan.

They are in over their heads and they need to be replaced. I am sorry you think my admiration for R&R is based on fluff and feathers. It’s not. I am a political junkie and I’ve been on this for a long time. I listen, I read, I observe. These are two of the best qualified people that ever ran for President and VP for THIS TIME. Maybe the econ ability wasn’t such a critical need in the past but things are really dire. I think R&R have the background, ability and political courage to at least turn the ship around.
