Ryan has said numerous times that he doesn’t want to remove the safety net for the people who need it. For heaven’s sake, he’s the first to admit that when his dad died, his mom went on government assistance. People need to read what he actually proposes, not just the scaremongering coming from the other side.

It’s evidence of the one-sided “reporting” the mainstream media engages in. They are doing a tremendous disservice to this country.

And both the liberal and conservative non-mainstream media also do one-sided reporting, in opposite directions of course. So we can’t win, that is, be honestly informed, no matter what!

Lisa, a small correction: they can, if they go outside the system. Which is what happens in socialized medicine countries all the time (I have family that has done so).

To be clear: I am not saying that I do not agree with your post-I do. Agree with almost everything you post. 🙂
Yes thanks for the clarification. You can work around the system but it’s difficult. Many people are of the impression that rich people can make a deal with a doc to pay them under the table. That would get the doc a long jail sentence!

The point being that Medicare was started to help lower income seniors although it was never means tested. I believe it should be means tested and thus save the benefits for those who need them. As I posted before my former boss makes over a million dollars a year but is eligiible for the same Medicare plan as our office’s cleaning lady. That’s one of the ways that the Ryan approach helps save Medicare instead of burning through all the money in the next decade.

The moral failure of FDR to set up a sustainable system? That system–Social Security and Medicare–has been sustainable for quite a number of years. Without FDR and his government programs to help people in need and put people back to work, who knows if our country would have even survived? If only we had leaders like Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt today!
It was sustainable at the time with the life expectency at the time and number of workers vis a vis the number of retired. I think the moral failure, the lack of courage, was the subsequent generation of politicians who, fearing backlash from seniors, refused to address the looming disaster. People used to live 5 years after retiring at 65. Now they live 20 years. There used to be far more people working than there are now. As I understand the number has gone from 6 to 1 to almost 1 to 1. That’ won’t work in the long run.

There have been some efforts to make Medicare sustainable. The cap on Medicare wages was removed and bwohahahahahhahaha those EVIL RICH PEOPLE are paying a boatload into Medicare now. That ought to warm the cockles of the Left’s hearts…But in reality there are some built in problems that Ryan is trying to address with his plan. Means testing, increased age, choice in plans and the opportunity to pocket savings…all good ideas to keep Medicare in the black

Very true. I do my best to sort it out by reading multiple sources. Even then, you find there aren’t very many sources…a lot of stories are from AP or Reuters, reprinted by the various news outlets.

Here’s one where I disagree 😃

You pay Medicare taxes in. Seems unfair that anyone, including the rich, should be means tested out of the program. It then becomes not a Medicare tax, but just a plain tax for these folks. Hardly seems fair.

The way it works in Italy, BTW, is that there are doctors that opt out completely. The best and brightest, if you will. You want to see them, you pay cash.

Again, with you 99.99% of the time.👍

The Republican Party hasn’t always been the far right extremists they’ve become today and there was no Tea Party 30 yrs ago. This yr is different if Paul Ryan were to somehow become VP, and if the House were to remain in Republican Tea Party hands, and Republicans were to gain control of the Senate. While I don’t expect the Republicans to get 60 Senate seats even if they were to become the majority if that were to still matter, but all of this is another reason why I am voting for Obama to assure some checks and balances of their agenda.
There did not use to be such partisan extremists in the democrat party. Bill Clinton worked with Newt Gingrich to pass welfare reform. Obama hasn’t even met with Reid and Boehner to discuss which bills he would sign to help get people working again. Nearly 30 bipartisan jobs bills passed in the house stuck in the majority democrat senate.

There are an increasing number of physicians in the United States that are also opting out of Medicare.

And Medicaid.

Our foster children are on Medicaid - the only reason our family doctor agrees to see them is they are part of our family. If they were still with their parents the emergancy room would be their primary care provider.

Until recently I had no idea how many Catholics were in government.

The Vice President is Catholic, Nancy Pelosi is Catholic, a lot of the governors are Catholic, 6 of the Supreme Court Justices are Catholic.

Wow.
They call themselves Catholic, not the same as “are Catholic”.

I have read some physicians’ blogs which show an increasing concern that they are personally at risk from Medicare regulations, which are voluminous. Apparently they are subject to unannounced visits from bureaucrats who might wish to audit their practice. Coding errors and inadvertent regulatory violations can bring down big fines, and they are presumed guilty unless they can exhaustively prove their innocence.

Yeah right…Romney’s taken so much out of the Treasury. Probably to support his wife’s dressage horse! Right now half the country doesn’t pay income tax and nearly half get some kind of government benefit. When the people pulling the wagon are outnumbered by those IN the wagon, the economy stalls. Which type are you DeSanto?

Lisa
Romney hides his money in Swiss bank accounts to avoid paying the little he does has to pay already in taxes. The people “pulling the wagon” own more wealth than the rest of the country put together. Half the people not paying taxes is because they don’t make enough money, cmon! Does any of this matter to you or are you just the type that is willing to vote for anything that isn’t Obama?

What Mr. Romney does with his money is HIS business. He has done nothing illegal, although as you evidently believe anything hear from the left, you probably think he’s a felon. This unsubstantiated fear mongering class warfare character assassination IS A DISTRACTION to the real issues in the campaign!!! Stop swallowing the lies hook line and sinker and do your own homework! The Democratic talking points are a tired argument. If you want to allow yourself to be taken by lies and fear and class warfare, then fine. But its still not true or a valid argument.

God bless.
