Pope Paul VI reiterated very well what was always Church teaching.
He correctly went against the opinions of most of the people in the “exploratory committee” who thought contraception was a matter of conscience.
During the time it was being explored, many, many people though Church doctrine would change and jumped the gun.
When Humanae Vitae was released, many priests rebelled against it.
It’s unfortunate he did not allow the Bishops to crack down on the dissent more. If so, we might have Catholics who actually follow it. As it is, the percentage of Catholics using contraceptives isn’t that different than the population as a whole.

Because Pope Francis seems to like to emphasize the positive aspects of Catholic teaching (e.g. being for openness to life) rather than the negative ones (e.g. being against contraception). A lot more goes into being open to life than simply being against contraception (though it does necessarily include that).Why speak in riddles? The Phillipines have been very attacked and pressured to cave into contraception use. This is very important that the Pope clarified the teachings and pointed out what was previously stated and that this prediction has really come true.
With that said, I would not expect much coverage of this mostly because of the pressure from so many parts of the world for this country to cave in and use contraception. It would fly in the face of what they are trying to force them to do. We must pray for the Philipines that they stay strong and stay on track.
