Since God is Almighty, and can do as He pleases. And can take from, and give to, as He sees fit, of which there is nothing that can stop Him from doing so. Why did He require payment for the remission of sin, in order to be in His Presence?

While God is Love and Mercy, He is also complete in Justice. Nothing other than perfect may be in Heaven. So it looks like we all have a ways to go.

Life isn’t easy for the majority of people and suffering on earth is also redeeming as long as you choose God. If you turn your back on God through sin grace stops flowing to you from God.

So in addition to living day to day make sure you are going to Mass, receiving the sacraments, praying and doing good works. By accepting God and following his law and partaking of all the wonderful benefits provided you will please Him and someday have the opportunity to spend eternity with Him in heaven.

I strongly urge you to begin praying the Rosary as often as possible. It is a powerful pray, the prayer of the Gospel Mysteries, and our Blessed Mother and Queen of Heaven and Earth will help you. Saying the Rosary offers these wonderful benefits that will surely help you have everlasting life. So as Fr. Corapi says – Just do it! God Bless.

15 Promises For Saying The Rosary – From Our Blessed Mother
  1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.
  2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
  3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies
  4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
  5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
  6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
  7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
  8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
  9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
  10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
  11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
  12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
  13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death
  14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
  15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

Wow, that was fast there PAboy57, thanks for the reply.

Anyway, how is it that any religious activity pleases God? And what does that have to do with remission of sin since mankind does not have the power to save himself from death?

Off subject: (from Pgh. Use to live in Somerset PA. Needless to say Go Steelers, you do know they are owned by a Catholic family, you are now obligated 👍 )

All the responses here are good, but when I read you question I had to wonder "What are you referring to when you say “payment for the remission of sin, in order to be in His Presence.”
Can you elaborate on what you mean by that phrasing?

Stay blest.

Hi DP, God created us perfect children in His image.
The disobedience of Adam and Eve, did us all in, though, along with them.
We had to be redeemed from that sin.The Father gave us His Son Jesus to pay for that redemption.
When we fall back into sin, and repent of it, God forgives us and we are restored to is love,However, even tho’ God in his mercy forgives us when we repent,we must pay the price of temporal Punishment.
An example,
I commit murder…I repent, God forgives me. But, I still have to suffer the lawful penalty of it,make up for the wrong done.Peace, Carlan

Well, God is God, who can deny His power to fulfill His expectations? And in that consideration why would He see the necessity in giving His only Begotten Son to experience (on the Cross) what we are to experience, in order that He would be satisfied?

Not sure if that would be clear enough or not.

No misunderstanding in what you’ve posted.

But when one thinks about what you mention in the garden. Why was the tree of knowledge of good and evil there in the first place? Or why couldn’t such an event have happened maybe ten generations from Adam and Eve? Could it be that if such a thing was to befall one, that God saw that it should befall all?

DP, briefly, only God Himself is sufficient to make satisfaction for this sins against Himself. IOW, no man is holy enough, worthy enough to make recompense for man’s sin against God; thus God Himself sent the sacrifice: God the Son Incarnate as Man.

The explanation in terms of Covenant (according to Scott Hahn, I believe) was very much of an enlightenment to me. A covenant, of course, is not just a contract in the legal sense. It goes well beyond that. When a covenant is broken, the party breaking the covenant has committed to forfeit blood of an unblemished sacrifice.

God, in His boundless love, knew that mankind could never have an unblemished man to maintain or renew the covenant by his blood sacrifice. So He sent His Son, Jesus, as a man, as a member of humanity, solely to act as that blood sacrifice.

What a loving God that is so involved with our welfare that He would assume the responsibilities of BOTH parties in the convenential agreement to assure our ultimate
returning to Him!!!

That is certainly not as eloquent as where I heard it originally, but it is nonetheless a beautiful image of God who is always as near to us as our next breath.

Stay blest.

It was in the covenant God made with Abraham. Abraham split the animal in two, and God walked through the middle of the split animal. Whoever broke the covenant would be split in two as was the animal. The Israelites broke the covenant over and over again. God sent his son to be the sacrificial lamb in our place.

Payment for the remission of sin?

The payment for the remission of sin was done with the cross. What was happening in this wicked world before Jesus was the human sacrifice of children and babies into a burning pit. God, Jesus’s Father, would first get on the case of sinners using spotted animals for sacrifice for the remission of their sins. This was not an acceptable sacrifice. So then out of hate and spite, some would, instead of the spotted animals, would use children and babies. UNTIL JESUS CAME.

Rememer that the world flooded once, which helped to cleanse the earth of many evil-doers. There were less than a couple of handfuls of adults on the Ark, along with all those animals. It is my spiritual theory that the AIDS virus is also being used to cleanse the world of wicked ones. The difference-those with this virus have plenty of years to get the faith, unlike drowning which is only 10 minutes.
Mary:mad:

So with you theory does that mean al the innocent victims of AIDS like babies and the women who never sinned are all being cleaned out as well as the sinners?

Yes. We are the Communion of Saints. When one sins, we all suffer. This is why we are called to do penance for the sins of others.

well,I think it was there to symbolize the privilege God had for himself, and when Adam sinned, layed his hand on the tree,he layed his hand on God’s privilege and made himself arbiter of what is good and what is evil , he usurped the divine privilege. I suppose it is where free will about deciding for himself’/ourself and what is good and what is evil comes in and acting to that accord, But really DP I’m not sure if I have given you a correct explanation, I’m sure there is some out there who can explain it all more clearly than I :shrug:Peace, Carlan

It is not any religious activity that pleases
God. Remember the Sadducees and the Pharisess. How Jesus said they were clean on the outside, but full of filth on the inside. Faith is both how we are on the outside and where our hearts are. People can act on the outside but have hearts that are far away from Faith, likewise people can have hearts full of faith but on the outside are far away from the faith.
Since Jesus shed His blood, we as faithful people to the Lord, no longer have to sacrifice unblemished animals of a certain type for the remission of sin. Apologies have to come out of the heart, not be superficial actions or spoken words. Then us people are to repent, which is non-scarring physical, emotional or financial pain, which will force us to remember not to commit sin.
So in answer to your question, religious activity has nothing to do with the remission of sin. Recall that there is a statement made by Jesus where He states that they claim they have done all sorts of good deeds-healing the sick, casting out demons, etc. and Jesus responds with Be gone from me, I never knew you.

No, no way. Not the steelers. It is the Green Bay Packers! Go, Pack, Go. Good thing we won’t be related until I see you in Heaven.

yes Mary, however, what do you say about growth in holiness and purification…what the Church teaches about temporal punishment?

No doubt what you’ve said is true, but why was His Presence in the Son of man required? When surly He could make another man to meet the requirement.

Absolutely

But since you mentioned covenant/contract could it be that the Lord God’s statement of:
Gen:2:16: And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Be the original covenant with mankind?

Consider if one party of an agreement brakes the agreement, the other party in this case can not only forgive the terms of the agreement, but also has the power to restore the man to the former status of the covenant. And why would it require the Presence of His only Begotten Son (from the Father) in the Son of man, to set things aright?

No man who was not also God could “meet the requirement”, thus God the Son alone can redeem man AS the God-Man, all flesh summed-up in His Flesh united to His Divinity.
