Pelosi Says Her Catholic Faith ‘Compels’ Her To Support Gay Marriage

When a self claimed “Catholic” who is an important political figure publicly says things against Church’s teaching and pretends that’s from a “Catholic’s” point of view, it is evil on purpose.

This country was founded on Christian value. Although there are always many liberals, the government we elected always governs under God’s truth until the past three and half years. And it is getting worse and worse now.
Self claim? Your own Church claims them Catholic sans the quotation marks though of course. Who’s pretending anything? Biden and Pelosi are Catholics who have spoken their political view about civil marriage. Obama is not a Catholic but a Christian, baptized and married in the Christian denomination known as the United Church of Christ who has spoken his. None of them are religious leaders. They are public officials. None were elected Pope or bishop. None are redefining the definition of religious marriage let alone the definition of Sacramental Marriage within the Catholic Church. None of them have the power to do so.

What a job these politicians have, trying to work it all out in good conscience, you know we don’t sit in with them when they face their confessor, the priest in Persona Christi. How can we judge their justification? Domine Miserere Nobis and all of us.
Peace, Carlan
Obviously we can’t judge the interior spiritual life of any person. Only God can do that. We can certainly judge actions, though.

It is apparent that something compels Ms. Pelosi to support gay marriage, but it cannot be her Catholic Faith, since the Catholic Faith considers homosexual marriage to be disordered and bad for society and an evil.

So we can only conclude that she misunderstands her Catholic Faith, or that “her” Catholic Faith diverges from actual Catholic Faith.

Constitutionality and religious views do not always coincide. She is not adhering to the Catholic principles. I wonder why she considers herself Catholic. Should she not go to the Episcopal or some other Church which is more in line with her views?
I don’t know if you’re a convert from the Catholic Church to the Episcopalian or not. If so, then obviously you were able to take that step. But it’s not always that easy for everyone. First of all the Catholic Church tells Catholics such as Representative Pelosi that she is a Catholic. She’s had it engrained into her that the Catholic Church is the one true Church. Catholics face a lot of indoctrination. Maybe even though she might not live up to everything, she fears that if the Church is the one true Church of Christ, that in the meantime she will not leave completely and one never knows when she might return to full communion. I know you’re not identifying as a Catholic. But it always puzzles me why Catholics would tell someone to leave or push someone further away…

And you know all of this how?

She may be a Catholic by virtue of baptism, but she is certainly not practicing Catholicism.

Know all of what? That it’s not always easy for someone to completely leave? If it were, there would be even more Catholics who might not be as faithful as someone else, leaving for another place to worship. But instead they maintain some ties. It has to be hard for them to try holding onto parts of the faith, if it’s even only an identification based on Baptism, when they are faced with people telling them to get out. It has to be hard for them when they are told by the Church they are Catholic, but as hard as some might try to form their conscience to Church teaching, their conscience at the point of their journey they are at, can not abide by everything.

The Church does call her a Catholic by virtue of her Baptism so that’s how I know that.

Catholics from a very young age with even the very basic instruction are told the Catholic Church is the one true Church.

I did say “maybe” she fears if it is the one true, that she then remains. I obviously haven’t spoken to her to say for sure. That’s why I said “maybe”. 🤷

And it should be obvious to anybody that one never knows when another might repent and return to full communion. Only God knows the heart and the future. So that’s how I know that.

Thanks for the link!

I do not understand…😦 A sad situation all around!!

Praying for her & our country!:highprayer:

Rome has not changed! any posts disagreeing with the “Catholic” church are removed to preserve the delicate position Roman Catholicism finds itself in . Banned books, banned ideas banned thinking. Rome is indeed the Antichrist. How many paedophile priests did Rome protect? And you worry about homosexuals.

(I’m glad that for the most part, this discussion has been positive. I would like to apologize to all for my attitude at the beginning of this discussion. I was rather distraught from the treatment I’d received this past week, on various forums. It is hard to deal with trying to give my opinions while being personally attacked on numerous occasions. Still, I guess I will need to learn how to handle it. Still, I am a bit at tears and am unsure if I’m really welcome here. Maybe the feelings will pass but I want to feel welcome somewhere in this world and I don’t feel that way.)

I started out asking a rather silly question, without really going into full detail what I think. I think some have echoed my own thoughts. I think it is incredibly hard for all of us to follow every rule that God requires of us. Everyone has wants and it’s hard to see that while we may want something, God has greater intentions for us.

It pains me that so many think so lowly of God’s Church because the rules are ones they might feel are asking too much of them.

But the thing with Pelosi is that she is redefining what the Church stands for. I have seen this before. In fact, I was arguing with a pro-abortion Catholic elsewhere(who really hates me) and likes to cite the Catechism in regards to social justice, but will cuss you out if you cite the section on abortion. I’m astounded because I think anyone who has been to church in the past year would be well aware of the Church’s stance on all of these matters, so it’s either lack of awareness or people ignoring the truth.

I am not perfect. I hate myself more than I could ever feel hatred towards others. 🙂

Is it Nancy Pelosi’s job to represent her constituents or her bishops/faith? I wonder about this especially in her capacity as Speaker. If one thinks she should be the out front spokesperson for Catholicism, would one the same about Mitt Romney stricly adhering to his beliefs if he becomes president?

I don’t think either one should be in a job that forces them to turn against God for money and power.

I also think there is a third option for these politicians. Opting out of the issue altogether. Don’t want to turn against the church or your constituents? Don’t take a stance. Don’t get on that podium and open your mouth.

That is right, one can be silent, not taking a stance. It is a choice to publicly say things against the Church’s teaching.

My previous bishop mentioned in his homily that once he had a conversation with a politician about why she said the things she said. The politician answered because she wanted to get the votes. “How sad”, the bishop expressed in his homily. That was in D.C. We don’t know who that politician was, but that is many politicians’ mentality.

Why do you continue to ignore the blatanly obvious, Matt? Politicians may speak of their personal or political views. Yes they are secular public officials…

BUT, it’s a different story altogether when they claim their Catholic faith is the motivating factor for support for an issue that the Church VEHEMENTLY opposes.

So, I wonder for the Catholics on this board who support an issue that the Chuch opposes:

What will happen to the Church, should “same sex marriage” become the law of the land?

If the Catholic Church is willfully violating people’s “Civil Rights”, shouldn’t she be punished???

That politician was a servant of the god named “Power”, not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

This has been explained to you several times before - they cause great scandal within the Church. Even though they aren’t Bishops, Cardnials, Priests, Deacons, etc. they are leaders in the secular world.

But we can objectively say that her actions do not coincide with the teachings of the Catholic Church. We cannot judge her knowledge or heart.

To understand what might be in Pelosi’s heart you have to understand “Pelosi Catholicism.” Trying to understand “Pelosi Catholicism” will melt your brains. If you proceed to try to understand where she is coming from you will die with your brains oozing out your ears and nose. Don’t die with your brains oozing out your ears and nose. When Pelosi speaks don’t listen it is harmful to your health.

I read that last part like, “don’t reenact scenes of Platoon with Charlie Sheen.” 😛

In California when the issue of marriage was put on their ballot, the citizens (her constituents) supported traditional marriage - between a man and a woman. As is the case for every state where this issue has been put on the ballot.

I think it’s also important to remember that it is not only the Catholic faith that believes in marriage between a man and woman. There are many religions that practice the same belief.

While, I agree that our politicians shouldn’t force their beliefs onto another, they can’t have it both ways either. Pelosi speaks of Catholic teachings that are misguided/false when it serves her agenda. We are all disciples of Christ, and as such must speak out when lies are spoken and he is being offended. Our Lord suffered the most painful death imaginable for us. It’s the least we can do.
