You can’t be a faithful and obedient Catholic and disagree with the 5 non-negotiables.

You can disagree with them and be an unfaithful and disobedient Catholic.

The question they should ask themselves is “why would you want to be the latter knowing full well that you are contradicting Catholic teaching and the Pope?”

Why the need to cling to the Catholic faith? Is it the incense?🤷
Since I’ve explained some possible reasons to you previously, recently actually, I’m not going to go back into it again right now.

Whatever morals she has are between her and God, except to the extent they might adversely affect others. The problem is not what dissident views she may have, but that she misrepresents what the Church teaches. Pelosi is a canny woman. She cannot possibly fail to know she is lying about the Catholic Faith.
Well to the extent she’s misrepresenting anything, just keep on informing the public that she isn’t a bishop if anyone actually believes she is and doesn’t speak for the Church. That should help. But I wouldn’t go so far as to go against Church teaching and begrudge her identifying as a Catholic if she chooses to.

She isn’t identifying as a Catholic, she is using false Church teaching to throw support behind that which contradicts actual Church teaching.

Imagine if someone said “my membership in the Boy Scouts of America compels me to endorse incest.”

I am guessing the Boy Scouts would take exception, and you’d probably agree, and rightly so.

She can call herself a Martian if she wants to, and it doesn’t bother me. That’s not it.

It’s that she misstates Catholic teachings and surely knows it. Some will believe her. How did Jesus put it:

“It were better for him, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should scandalize one of these little ones.”

Lets face it. Some posters will defend it until the cows come home because they agree with her position, Church or no Church. That’s their prerogative, but let’s not hide behind word parsing to do so. Just admit it. Everyone knows its true, and it will save countless pages of repetition that gets ignored by those posters anyway.

Interestingly, some of the same posters have a problem with Catholic Chaplains using ACTUAL Church teaching to defend a position. Similarly, the objection is because they disagree with Church teaching. And also similarly, they argue by hiding behind points like “you’re beholden to the military now.” Neither argument makes sense, or is relevant whatsoever.

Well said, He Man. Amen.

This is the first I’ve heard that she does not call herself a Catholic as her Church does.

Maybe the bishops should start investigating the Boy Scout, too. 🙂

Youre right! Judas was also a Catholic, though, so shes not in very good company.
When the crunch comes at the end of our lives, our words and deeds will speak for themselves. A title on its own will mean nothing, and God isn`t fooled by lies and hypocrisy.

A quote from Scripture is appropriate:
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. [Isaiah 5: 20]
The sooner she remembers that she`ll eventually have to face God, the better the chance of saving her soul.

In the political realm, there`s a crime called “Treason”.
In the spiritual realm, the penalty for the equivalent crime is for keeps. That applies to all of us!

Thanks Fiasco, for reminding the sinners on this thread," Domini Miserere Nobis"!
Peace, Carlan

You should generally wait more than three minutes before making the exact same post.
Right. In this case I saw the “thanks for posting” part but didn’t catch there was a technical gliche last night on CAF until the 2nd one. I apologize if it bothered you.

No one said we were. We’re discussing Pelosi’s misrepresentation of the Catholic faith, and the scandal of such misrepresentations.
Ok so just so I’m clear about your earlier post. Besides being ok if she called herself a Martian, you’re also ok with Nancy calling herself a Catholic in public?

I keep seeing on these forums that the Catholic Church doesn’t know who is in hell. Does that include Judas? Here’s the thing. If Nancy Pelosi wants to call herself a Catholic, that is a right given her by the Catholic Church by virtue of her Baptism and in her case I’m presuming her Confirmation as well. I would think Catholics would rather see her sticking around where she has the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing available to her at some point just as they do. Rather than if she is indeed viewed as not in full communion, to then drive her further away and have her go elsewhere. Once a person is driven elsewhere, they might never return. But I may never understand the whole concept of those who think differently and believe she should refrain from calling herself a Catholic or should leave.

Why are we belaboring the obvious here, CMatt?

No one has a problem with former Speaker Pelosi calling herself a Catholic, or voicing her political and private opine.

What (at least this poster) has a problem with is former Speaker Pelosi misrepresenting Church teaching by claiming that Church teaching is the impetus of a political position contrary to Church teaching, and doing so willfully, and publicly.

Nany Pelosi is, in fact, a baptized Catholic, or so we are assured. I have no reason to doubt that. Inasmuch as that is a fact, then one could hardly object to her stating a fact which is not, in itself, misleading or scandalous though, certainly, the scandalousness of her statements or actions might be enhanced to some by her being Catholic.

However, when she suggests, as she does, that her Catholic faith leads her to actions that she surely knows are contrary to the teachings of the Church, and knowing, as she surely does, that some might be misled by such statements or, minimally, encouraged in dissidence themselves, then I say she’s very much in the wrong.
