The dioceses of Erie and Harrisburg separately have already released the lists of names of accused priests and lay people in their dioceses, which includes some additional names beyond those in the grand jury report.

The dioceses of Allentown, Scranton, Pittsburgh, and Greensburg are releasing the lists of names for their dioceses after the release of this report. Check the individual diocese sites for the lists if you are interested.

I can’t even get into bishop-accountability.org which is my usual go-to for this sort of info. Must have a major update and thousands of hits happening right now.

I’ve read a little and am absolutely disgusted and just speechless… I don’t know exactly what to say. It’s just so heartbreaking to see how many boys and girls were abused by these monsters… It’s too much. Nothing but pure EVIL. So much evil. And the fact that it was covered up is infuriating. ALL of it is evil. And I don’t care if “only one percent of priests committed abuse!” Guess what?! That’s one percent TOO MUCH!! And its not just the abusers themselves who did these evil things. The ones who covered it up are just as evil and putrid.

I got to the part about the one priest collecting urine and menstrual blood from five sisters and keeping the collecting in his rectory and had to stop reading. That was only a few pages into the report.

Totally disgusting.

All I can say is to repeat the words of St Teresa of Avila, who told her nun’s, “when the Church is in crisis, our job is to be better Catholics.”

Really? I’ve read from a few sources that it was around one percent. But even if it is 4-7 percent. It’s still 4-7 percent too much.

The Church’s number is 1%. The factual number is between 4-7%.

However, there are currently 831 parishes and 1,110 diocesan priests across the 6 dioceses. If we assume an average of 5 priests per year were ordained in each diocese since 1940, that’s 2,340 additional priests. If the number of parishes has been relative constant since that time, we’re looking at about 3,500 priests, putting the abuse rate at ~9%.

It’s a dark day for our Church. The priest that baptized me is on the list.

I skipped to the Pittsburgh part since there’s a parish where I regularly attend there. Wuerl is NOT looking good in this report AT ALL. I predict his head will be the next to roll.

Yeah. I’m not seeing how he survives this. To the Vatican he talks the talk, but in the diocese he just transfers these disgusting men around!

Oof. Reading multiple accounts of priests paying for the abortions of their own babies.

I just read as much as I could without screaming out loud. I am outraged and sickened. I don’t care what the percentage of men are pedophiles in the outside world, inside the church it should be 0%. The stories about the 3 or 4 priests in Pittsburgh who were part of a pedophile ring and used the kids to make porn pictures is most heartbreaking. How could they possibly keep moving them around? How? How about the priest who had names of other priests who did the same evil things to children, and he used it as leverage to get money from the Diocese. I’m about ready to not give one more cent to this Church and just give our contribution to other charities. What evil has been lurking in our midst. These men dare to say Mass, and distribute the Body of Christ. I don’t know what to think anymore. No wonder the youth are leaving in droves.

Honestly, how does one respond to family and friends who aren’t Catholic and just use this as another way to attack the Church? Sometimes, I can’t blame them. This report sickens me.

What the Church believes and professes, and what so-called Catholics actually DO are two different things. You and I should be Catholic because of God and what the Church teaches. Our faith shouldn’t be based on people, clergymen or laymen, but on God. Otherwise our faith would quickly end. When people attack the Church, admit that members, even those in high positions, have done truly heinous things. But that is not a reflection of the Church’s holy teachings.
