Hi Holley,
I am a Charismatic/Pentacostal.
I do not believe in Sola Scriptura, I do believe that the bible is the ultimate authority. Scripture over tradition vs tradition over scripture.
“Lively” praise and worship can be a good thing, worsipping od with our whole being. We enter His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Praise and worship should bring us into the very tangible presence of God “God inhabits the praises of His saints”.
This presence is very real, it is the real presence of God.
Read 1 Corinthians were Paul said he desires that all should speak in tongues, that al should prophesy that we should desire the best gifts of the Spirit. This has all been lost in the Catholic Church. Pentacostal live the 1st century Christian Church.
Hisalone.
You are gravely mistaken. I am so annoyed that people like you will sit there and say such things, just proving you have never been in the Catholic Church… you have never met the people nor investigated the spiritualities that grow side by side in that Church.
You think because you can walk into a mass and not see the gifts in display that they are missing from the lives of individuals and congregations. Thats an error.
The first time I really met the charismatic gifts in a totally natural and integrated way was at a Catholic pilgrim sight where a whole town was under the FIRE of revival. There were daily occurences of healings, visions, prophesy etc. I know because I was there… I met people who had been healed even from the last stage of cancer… I met people that spoke in tongues and people that layed their hands on people so that these fell/rested in the Spirit.
But everything went on in ORDER, without a show. In pentecostalism I have seen how the gifts are often made center of attention. In Catholicism its the worship of God in numerous ways, most importantly by being love and light in the world in our daily life and not just at Sunday service.
You dont really know what you are talking about do you?
Besides… I am tired of the “there was an original church along side the Catholic Church but hidden”- argument.
Give sources… if you can you are the first Evangelical I meet who can. Luckily my own Pentecostal friends admit the original church was Catholic. They just havent taken the consequence of that scientific knowlege.
You wanna talk about original Church. Very well… I have some books with the earliest documents written by Christians, before and after the canonisation of the New Testament writings. Tell me what books you have… what early fathers you have studied. Then we can talk about “original church” based on facts.
Or maybe you are not interested in that?
Shalom from a former Evangelical, now happy Catholic.
