BTW, here’s an inside look at the Pope’s Apartment in the Apostolic Palace.

A far cry from how my Bishops lives.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticizing how the Pope lives, but just disagreeing that he lives no better than the average Bishop.

Didn’t know that all the china and crystal glass wear in the Pope’s residency, has his coat of arms on it.

I doubt, my Bishop has such a thing.

Also notice the butler serving the Pope and his guest at dinner. He’s dressed in formal clothes a butler would wear, not a priest or nun.

Who’s showing disrespect? Please provide the quote where disrespect was made.

Jim
Oh pulease, don’t give me that.
And yeah…I consider that disrespect.

And if you disagree then you disagree. Nothing I can do about it.

This thread (and it’s subject) is silly anyway. Time to move on.

There are 5 people in the papal apartments who assist the Pope. They are members of the Memores Domini, a lay association whose members practice obedience, poverty and chastity, and who live in a climate of silence and common prayer.

It wasn’t a maid who reported that the Pope John Paul II whipped himself, it was a nun:

I am not sure why any of this is relavent. We are talking about the leader of the Universal Church who like it or not, has a pretty complex schedule and pretty complex administration to oversee. To expect him to take time washing his own sheets is a bit much.

Is it okay if I say, it’s okay and no big deal?

That’s how I feel.

I hope Pope Benedict XVI enjoys it.

Actually the Pope has everything every other Bishop has plus more. He has room and board in a plush Papal residency. He is fed by the finest chefs and has full maid and butler service. This along with the best medical care money can buy, and anything the Pope wants, he gets.

This doesn’t count the gifts he gets, which the perfume may in fact be a gift, but it’s just smells fishy. Pun intended. 😃

Also, he doesn’t have to retire at age 75 as Bishops do.

Jim
He didn’t get a bill for the perfume! 😃

Ahem, the person was taking me to task over my being a Carmelite.

Jim

I’m not taking you to task for being a Carmelite. On the contrary, because I’m very familiar with Carmelite spirituality, I’m pointing out that in the good tradition of the Carmelite reformers one finds that they refrained from all public disagreements and criticisms of the hierarchy, even if they did not agree. Their power of discretion and their avoidance of joining the crowd, was part of the gift that they brought to Carmel.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

Ah, but that’s where you misunderstood, probably due to my poor writing skills.

I was not disagreeing with the life-style of the Pope, but disagreeing with your post saying the Pope doesn’t live better than the average Bishop.

I still disagree. 😛

OH, and I’m talking about US Bishops specifically, being I don’t know how Bishops in 3rd World Countries live.

Ahhh, I see what’s happening. We’re not thinking about the same thing, though we’re thinking about the same person. I was sitting there thinking, "The Carmelite reformers never made public statements that would be interpreted as being critical of authority. You were thinking about the comparison between the pope and other bishops.

OK, not big deal. Now I’m clear what happened. We were not on the same page. That happens, especially if you’re not in the same room.

Also notice that he has guests. He is a head of state, and most do treat their guests that way. You’re really reaching here. Makes me wonder if you have a problem with the Pope, or the Papacy?
