This link won’t work, either, but thanks for the information. I will order a copy.

Is it really criticism of the Church as an institution? Her teachings are simply put, beautiful! The perfect truth. OTOH, I have a lot of concern for some of her stewards, whose job it is to preserve these truths. There seems to be an attempt by certain prelates today, to sidestep or override authoritative Church teachings on marriage, contraception and homosexuality, etc., by allowing “individual conscience,” however informed, to be the guiding principle for Catholics.

Perhaps it’s a lack of a wider perspective. Often people make it a Church-wide problem when they have only ever known the American Church or just their diocese, if they don’t keep up with things. People on here often come here complaining about something in their parish and what the Church needs to do and other posters are just sitting there thinking, “What the hell kind of parish have you been attending?” because they haven’t encountered that in their particular parish.
Yes, I think this is a HUGE driver. Even apart from the issues confined to just one parish or just one area or just one diocese, people really lack a global perspective, not just on the Church but on everything.

When I would criticize the Church growing up, my mother would always point out that the Church was worldwide and the Pope had to make decisions that would work for the whole world, not just the USA or our diocese. She would say, “I don’t think the world is ready for that, dear.”
