Pfleger blames conservatives, NRA for troubles
The embattled pastor of St. Sabina Roman Catholic Church told radio show hosts Tavis Smiley and Cornel West this weekend that he would look outside the Catholic Church if offered no other choice but to work at a Catholic high school.

The Rev. Michael Pfleger also said on the “Smiley & West” public radio program that he had been banned from speaking at events in the archdiocese and blamed pressure from conservative Catholics and the National Rifle Association for his most recent clash with Chicago’s Cardinal Francis George.

“I want to try to stay in the Catholic Church,” Pfleger said. “If they say ‘You either take this principalship of [Leo High School] or pastorship there or leave,’ then I’ll have to look outside the church. I believe my calling is to be a pastor. I believe my calling is to be a voice for justice. I believe my calling is to preach the Gospel. In or out of the church, I’m going to continue to do that.”
His calling is where God calls him to be through the Church.

No, I don’t. I see a priest in good standing with the Church who has some disagreements with his bishop, and a lay preacher who has some different disagreements with a different bishop. Both seem to me to be within the broad arms of the Church, if at opposite ends of her fingertips (so to speak). I see no call for demonizing either of them, especially a priest.
No Fr. Pfleger advocates for women’s ordination. That is not within the bounds of the Church and Pope John Paul II has said so.

I highly disagree with Voris ‘style’, but I have yet to find a topic in which he is outside of the Church’s teachings.

As as Beau noted, we should criticize a person on their way of presenting. I too would rather stick to content, and Fr. Pfleger is out of bounds there, Voris does not.

Father Pfleger has stated that if he is put outside Saint Sabina, it is the same as being placed outside the Church. To be clear, he did NOT say he would leave the Church; rather, he said the Church was placing him outside the Church. He fights against leaving Saint Sabina and he refuses to take the St. Leo principalship. He also stated that if he is definitely assigned to St. Leo, he will likely resign (or along those lines).
Resign? A priest cannot do tha, he should know enought about the priesthood and Holy Orders to realize that. Or do you think he means he would request either laicization or retirement?

I agree. I am not sure what he really intends. It seems he is trying to use the public sphere to help him stay at Saint Sabina’s. He bashes the idea of going over to St. Leo, yet no-one thinks he needs to be a teacher…he simply needs to be a Priest.

I pray his talk is just hot air…and that in the end he will do what is right.

After look at all these responses to this Post i agree we shouldnt be on here attacking Michael Pfleger, the Man, because whether some of us like it or not Jesus Christ, our Hope, our Light, our Life chose this man to be a priest. Now i do believe we can criticism some of his actions and methods as a priest for example the liturgical abuses espiecally the ones I’ve seen from his website. there is nothing wrong with his preaching, it is a preaching that sometime i believe that we as catholics should have sometimes but mainly this stlye of preaching is apart of a culture and its obvious that the parishoners of St. Sabina Catholic Church enjoy it so those of you who are not in that kind of culture should really butt out of that. It may not be the method of evangelization that christ uses to draw you closer to himself. Now from what i’ve seen he doesnt use the Red book(and for some reason the book that has all the mass prayers is red in every diocese ive been in) during the Eucharistic Prayers and that does bother me in my opinion. i do know that a preist has flexiblity in the prayers but not that much flexilility to make up their own which will be very intersting when the new/old Mass changes go into effect and he will have no choice but to stick to the prescribed formulae. i’ve never heard him invite the congregants to proclaim the mystery of faith. i dont know if he does it all the time or around the cardinal so i cant say that it goes on all the time. We as catholics should pray that the Holy Spirit leads Him to a reconversion to accept the will of the Church which Christ started on Pentacost which Fr. Pfleger made vows to when he was ordainded as a worthy minister to offer the perpetual sacrifice of praise on our behave in persona christi. 👍
