KZ2011;7656835. Isn’t the time right to give priests a choice to marry if they want to? Remember that celibacy does not come from the bible said:
being married does not mean anything. NBC did that show a few years back called to catch a predator and more than half the men caught were married with kids. The school district here in Philly has its share of sex predators as well but the media doesn’t seem interested in that story.

In St. Louis too. One was an sex offender ex priest, hired as a grade school janitor by the St Louis City Public school system. He continued his deviant behavior.

Yes I heard about the statistics about the married sex predators. My problem is that I just cannot understand how can these “holy priests” become so evil other then they so much repress their sexuality that then it will turn evil. If it is not like this then they had this condition before and I ask: nobody in the seminary ever noticed that they were weird or had issues? Then what is the seminary for? (I understand that this can happen in a few cases. However there must be hundreds of priests to be involved in this in USA).
Church is supposed to be our spiritual ideal. My husband is in the Philadelphia school district and so I know how many problems there are. How can you compare??? Philadelphia school district is not leading the kids to spiritual life, holiness, not giving them holy communion…

I personally very much respected our last parish priest. He was in fact one of the best priests I have ever met. And he is one of those put on administrative leave. He rather be innocent or my trust in the church will be completely broken. This is hard…

Oh Lord, I don’t even want to get into what was going on in some of our seminaries during the '70’s and '80’s. It’s a wonder we have any good and wholly priests at all. Also, please read my post about the Communist infiltration of our Seminaries…

The trust of many who were duped has already been broken. Put your trust in God, not in men. I would never let a sinful man keep away from my Holy Catholic Faith.

Best advice given. My faith doesn’t rest with a human being. I don’t go to Mass for the priest at all.
Well, I love the priests in our parish. They have been a large part of my faith formation. But if one of them turned out to be a sinner, I wouldn’t stop loving the Church the Christ built. God can use evil to bring us closer to Him.

Christine I read your post about the communists. I did not comment because I feel that this topic is very complicated and I have know too little about this even though I lived in it. I grew up catholic in communist Czechoslovakia and yes we were threatened and catholic church was certainly running under communist supervision. However many people jsut wanted to survive and so did the catholic church. If the priests did not colaborate with the communist regime to a certain extent all the churches would be just closed down and there would be no religion for us. Watch the film “Lives of others” to get an impression of this time. We highly respected catholic church! The priests were heroes for us.
I don;t know the situation in US. I just speak form my personal experience.

Maybe there is some truth about this communists in US but honestly isn’t it just an excuse? Isn’t it easier to blame others for our own internal problems? Again I don’t know much about communism in US to really argue any point here…

Hi KZ2011-
I’m not trying to blame communists as an excuse. The communist infiltration of the seminaries in order to undermine the Catholic Church was real. Read Fulton Sheen and PPII re this problem. I posted a link earlier.

In addition, many of our seminaries were in complete moral decay. I’ve been “talking” to some CAF posters telling me what was going on in their seminary and how they got kicked out for not playing along. It was the superiors who perpetrated these perversions, telling the seminarians homosexual acts weren’t sex. Read Goodbye Good Men By Michael Rosen. It’s disgusting.

*“Goodbye Good Men”…*and unfortunately true. And yes, I can agree it is also true that communists did in fact infiltrate the seminaries in order to destroy the Church, and were not completely ineffective, sadly.

It will be interesting to watch the developments.

Cardinal Rigali was recently installed as “chair” of Liturgy and Kenrick-Glennon Seminary here in St. Louis. Thankfully, Cardinal Burke, archbishop emeritus of St. Louis, holds the chair of Cannon Law.

Some day my daughter will be able to say the Pope confirmed here. 👍

This is a really simplistic statement but man, some days I just can’t get over how much molestation and pedophilia there has been in the Catholic Church in the last few decades. It’s just appauling…

I’m sick of and disgusted with it.

Christine, I agree with you. Every disclosure feels like a physical blow…

What is so scary is the damage created to people’s faith. What makes the Philadelphia situation so dfficult is the appearance of church leadership failing to keep the promises from 2002… The grand jury report is a brutal document …

I really hope that the holy father accepts Cardinal Rigali’s resignation (he’s 75) and appoints a strong, proven leader to replace him. Years ago Bishop Olmsted took over a diocese in distress… His capable, devoted and devout leadership has done an enormous amount of good to rebuild here on a stronger foundation. While I don’t want him to leave, I hope Rome has dentified someone lik him for Philadelphia . The innocent clergy deserve better leadership . The laity deserve better leadership.

the problem is at the seminary level. My question is how did these men get into the seminary in the first place?
The abuse scandals were and continute to be a homosexual based issue, not one of pedophelia, for the most part.

Fatigue. It is spiritually draining to be forced to cope with all of these incomprehensible acts of infidelity, immorality and unnatural perversity. None of us were prepared for the gravity, and the dark aspects of these scandals. The term diabolical defines the mysterious elements of these events, where we are confounded by the scope and abjection which we are forced to endure.

The Satanic realities which have existed from the beginning, now seem to be made glaringly contemporary by these scandals, because, who but the Devil himself could have devised such a clever, ironical, and confusing method for attacking the church, and the faithful. We are forced to confront the more difficult concepts of mercy, while our fists are clenched in outrage and bitterness.

However, there is no stain upon Jesus Christ, He is untouchable, and when we partake of the Holy Eucharist, we defeat the enemy, over and over again…always, until the end of time. We must always remember that Our Redeemer has already secured victory for those who remain faithful to him.

Still, we are all mere mortals, so I am sure these scandals have garnered many souls for the Devil. That is the tragedy, and the trap.

I have been considering coming into the Catholic faith, but you must know that I will not look at people but what I am convinced is right. I am reading the foundational teachings. (Church Fathers etc.) also the Catechism. These are the basis for your Catholic faith along with Sacred Scripture and the Sacraments. So if I’m focusing on these it only seems right that all Catholics should do the same and get on their knees in serious prayer and contemplation for the souls of those who have gone astray by sin. If you are the Body of Christ you must be strong against the evil and look to Him and that which is good and be better yourselves, more holy. (Overcome evil with good it says somewhere)He doesn’t ask us to retreat and say “Ok, I give up, I’m leaving”…He asked us in difficulty to stand closer to Him, trusting Him!

Let’s all pray:crossrc::highprayer:

You’re right, of course. But I think we’re just venting that we’re burned out and fed up with this evil; we’re not saying it’s time to bail or that the teachings or dogmas, theology, or morality that the Church teaches is evil. Once in a while you just get burned out on hearing this stuff.

Just like at work as a teacher I get fried on hearing of all the abuse of kids in my class, the divorces of parents, the foul-mouthed stuff, the drama from hormonal sixth graders, the daily grind, and today I find out the reason why a student of mind didn’t show up was that her dad committed suicide via a shotgun to the temple Sunday morning. Talk about trauma. I started a prayer thread for Kaytlyn and her mom, the girl in my class.😦

Just like your job can get to you once in a while, so can seeing the evil of individual men in the Church. Just as I won’t quit my teaching job over the tragedies I see, the same goes for Church. 🙂
