A few days ago I caught this ordinary-looking image of the setting sun shining on our kitchen wall. I was reminded of the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indiana Jones used the rays of the sun in the Well of Souls to locate the Ark. There are only two days out of the year when it is even possible for the sun to perfectly frame our clock on the opposite side of the house like this, and it has to be a clear evening. It just struck me as momentous for some reason.

Connemara , which I found the best part of Ireland .

We were getting hungry and there was no sign of a cafe or hotel , so we stopped and asked a lady if there was one nearby . She said there wasn’t but she would make us a fry-up , which she did , and it was delicious .

I passed Ailsa Craig, which lies off the Scottish coast , on my first trip to Ireland in 1967 .

Colloquially known as “Paddy’s milestone” , it was given the nickname because it is situated about half-way between Glasgow and Belfast, as the crow flies .

Today is the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians. The invocation Auxilium Christianorum originated in the sixteenth century. Pius V inserted the invocation in the Litany of Loreto after the battle of Lepanto when Catholics prayed Rosary to save Christianity from Ottoman Empire. - Church in Poland

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Truly, “you are blessed among women.”
For you have changed Eve’s curse into a blessing;
and Adam, who hitherto lay under a curse,
has been blessed because of you.

Cobh in Co.Cork was one of my favourite haunts,I stayed with the relations of a priest who married my parents :pray:t2: It had a melancholy air,but I think that was because I always seemed to visit in Autumn .

I was in Cobh in 1967 for a couple of days .

It poured with rain the day we arrived . The owner of the guesthouse we stayed in said that it wouldn’t be the Emerald Isle without the rain .

At night I woke every hour as the carillon of the cathedral sounded . 🙃
