vern humphrey:
Are you saying that nominees to both judgeships AND cabinet offices have NOT been questioned in the Senate about their religion?
No, I did not say that.

You’ve got to hand it to PP; they take Hope to a whole new level. It takes more faith than I have to actually hope that the entire Church will somehow forget that Church doctrine is based on God’s law, and that dissidents petitioning the pope does absolutely nothing. I mean, really. Staggeringly hopeful!

May this inspire anyone who hasn’t to check out American Life League’s STOPP campaign.

Dear Mr. Benedict,

It has come to the attention, that your management style for the Church you are currently president of, does not conform to our guidelines for enlighted organization leaders. Constant reference to the instructions of one Mr. J. Christ, or the writings from a book published approximately 2000 years ago (I AM WHO AM Publishers) , does not release you from your responsiblity to follow OUR guidelines.

As such, we expect you to do the following:
  1. Issue a memo permitting the use of any kind abortificant or birth control device by any member for any reason. Humans do not have life until we say they do. There are too many people already, and you are ruining the fun for those that already born.
  2. Realize that disease is a result of lack of protection, not a result of a lack of self control. Remember we are no better than animals.
  3. Delete all passages from this book you refer to as the “Word of God”, that condemn any kind of so called “perverse” sexual activity. Your views are backwards and not in line with current “enlightened” thought. This hate speech in written form will no longer be tolerated.
  4. As your hiring policies are inherently sexist, you are instructed to begin an affirmative action program that will ensure a 50% female content in the priesthood (priestesshood).
  5. Implement a sensitivity program to help change the mindset of your management team to reflect a more modern line of thinking.
Failure to implement any of these changes will result in a lawsuit. You will be contacted by our lawyer, Mr. Lou C. Furr, to ensure compliance.

Yours Truly,

Planned Parenthood

This is going up on my fridge! 😃

You know why PP thinks they can change Catholicism? Because they are nothing but a bunch of bullies. Have you ever read the kind of speech they use on their websites. “Anti-choice extremists” is just one example. They bully politicians to push their agenda, then they point fingers at religion saying we push our ideas on them. ARG!! THEY MAKE ME SO MAD!!!

Abortionists rarely, if ever, set up shop across the street from Catholic churches. This idea won’t work.
Hello? I didn’t say dictate where they set up shop. I said put adoration chapels where THEY set up shop. This idea WILL work. That is why it isn’t happening. It is the same forces of death working on both ends.

More than 200, over 95%, of Pres. Bush’s nominees have been confirmed by the Senate without Democratic opposition. So much for liberal obstructionism.
Then what’s the problem with the 5%? Hmmmm. Couldn’t have anything to do with abortion, could it? After all, they passed 95% so what could just 5% do?

JimG:
Next time I guess the conclave should just pre-screen all potential candidates through Planned Parenthood, to determine their acceptability.
Still wouldn’t work. There’s that silly ‘infallibility’ thing. No matter how enlightened a person they placed there, that oppressive, patriarchal ‘Spirit’ person would make them teach the same old Catholic stuff.

What’s a progressive to do? 😛

An abortionist, in front of whose business, I and other Catholics including a monk would pray and try to discourage the women entering the business, was located on one side of a six lane avenue. Across the street was a strip mall with four or five businesses. None of the shops were vacant or for rent.

Now, where would you have erected your adoration chapel? It didn’t happen here because such an idea was unworkable.

there is a planned parenthood office here that’s only open 1 1/2 days / week, they only do counseling it this location is close to the High School.

There is room available in the building next door, but it’s all owned by the same person who rents to PP. I doubt they’d be willing to rent to someone who’s sole purpose for existing is to make a statement of protest against an existing tenant. 😦

Also, I personally don’t have the $ to pay rent on a place. But I have driven into the parking lot and wished I could open a rosary business there. It’d be a terrible place to actually get any business (not a retail part of town, etc.) but it would be a place to pray for the girls who mistakenly go to the clinic and I could offer Crisis Pregnancy info.

Offer one of the smaller office’s owners higher rent and pray. Wait for one to become available. I didn’t say it doesn’t take some work, but believe me, with enough persistence, it can happen. In the worst case scenario, do it 6 lanes across - close enough for Jesus. Have you read Norma McCorvey’s book? Operation rescue moved in right next door. She converted.

Brad,

Have you personally openned such a storefront in your local community? How did it work out? How are you making the monthly rental payments?

For someone who wrote as beautiful a summation of the problem as you in post #15, these are lame-oooo excuses.

Every diocese has no more than a few places that butcher babies. Every diocese has enough pro-lifers willing to give a few bucks a month to rent a facility. They may be initially unwilling but money talks and others walk. Read Norma McCorvey’s story. It works. You are thinking like the Israelites wandering in the desert. Put on the mind and heart of Christ. Anything is possible. This is no big shakes. Perhaps if people tried instead of being naysayers, we would find out if it were possible.

I can’t open an adoration chapel. Only the diocese can. I want to start a lobbying effort to get it done in my diocese - I know I will face resistance from the diocese and will take time and effort - but someobody needs to get this ball rolling.

How about just a Crisis Pregnancy Center with a chapel incorporated. Wait the Adoration Chapel portion until the diocesean permissions are given.

How about it? The ball has to start rolling somewhere. You seem to have the drive and energy for this one.

I believe that there are other issues connected with these candidates beyond any positions on abortion. Priscilla Owen has a record of judicial activism in favor of corporations, and Janice Brown has a record of hostility to workers’ rights.

I personally don’t have a position about these women, but opposition, whether merited or not, does lie in areas other than abortion.

What about the pro-lifers at the Center who aren’t Catholic, and their reaction to a Catholic Chapel on the premises?
