I’m glad, it sounds like he’s improving still. I adopt all my animals from the SPCA, and I agree. After having such hard lives, I like to spoil them a little. I leave their food in their bowls all day so they can eat whenever they get hungry, and I keep a constant supply of dog biscuits in the cabinet. I also like to buy pig ears every now and then. They love them. I also buy these sausage dog treats from time to time. They’re made with real beef and pork, and my dogs love them. They eat well! 😃
Aww, bless you - you are so good to your dear dogs! 🙂 It’s so lovely to hear how you pamper them - people are terrible for just letting dogs eat twice a day. That just depresses me.

All the cats were either adopted from shelters or were neighbourhood strays … hmm, let me think.

Deja was the daughter of a cat living at a home my sister rented. She was the one I think I told you about - the SPCA said her brothers and sisters were ‘too wild’ to adopt, and Mum cracked and brought the last one home.
Sheba was adopted from a cat shelter.
Ginger was a neighbourhood stray - her family just left her behind when they moved.
Gypsy was another stray that roamed the area for months, trying to get into everyone’s house. 😦 Someone had apparently tried to pull her claws out - you should have seen the state of her paws!
Martha was dumped in front of our house - diabetic, almost bald, and thin as a rail. It took Mum a couple of months to catch the poor old girl.
Otis was a stray - and weirdly, Mum figured out that he was half-brother to one of our cats and the grandson of one of our other cats (both are now dead, alas).
Cosmo was dumped in a sack near the SPCA; our neighbours adopted him, then ‘he got outside somehow’. As a kitten, for heaven’s sake. He took months to catch, too.
Hobbes was adopted from another shelter… he was on display at a pet store, looking like he was going to die within minutes, and just the most depressed, sad-looking cat I ever saw. Covered in scabs, green goo running out of his eyes, blood oozing from his nose, black crud in his ears… I mean, what was the shelter thinking? Who would normally adopt such a cat???
Morris was dumped at a cat shelter while my mum was visiting their adoption kiosk at PetsMart. He starved himself for a few days and then was lost in the store for a few days more before Mum snatched him and said ‘fine, we’ll foster him’ (which turned into adoption when it transpired that he was a very sick kitty)
Sabu was a 7-week-old kitten that had been dumped at our vet’s.

People can be such beasts. sigh

Sometimes I think people can be more animals than the animals themselves. Actually, I think many times animals are kinder, because they love unconditionally. Most people don’t. I’m glad you’ve adopted all these cats. It sounds like they all desperately needed good homes. I’ll never understasdn how anyone can just dump a defenseless animal off somewhere, alone with no food, water, or shelter. People like that are obviously lacking in any kind of basic human kindness. I feel so bad for animals in those types of situations, and I’m so glad the SPCAs in my area are working towards permanently stopping euthanasia. I know I’ve said that before, but I’m just really happy about it! 🙂 Keep up the good work. It sounds like you’ve done awesome things with these unwanted cats you’ve taken and raised. God bless! 🙂

Far too true!

Isn’t it strange? I don’t understand why anyone would do that - if they don’t want the animal, fine, but there’s a lot of SAFE places the animal could go to!

I’m thrilled too! 🙂 I think that’s wonderful of them.

beaming Thank you, dear, and God bless you for all you’ve done with your furry family! 🙂

Exactly, there’s just no reason for it.

Yes, we’re fortunate here, I haven’t heard of SPCAs anywhere else doing it.

Thank you! 🙂

:harp: Cosmo is home! :harp:

The vet thought he was doing well enough to continue his recovery at home, so we have the little fellow back for Christmas!

No serious problems with his motor skills anymore; it’s taking him a while to remember everyone and everything (he still seems unsure as to where he is), but he’s happy as can be - both purring and drinking water on his own, neither of which he’s done since March.

Easily confused, alas, and panic-stricken if he can’t see me (and he can’t seem to remember where I am for more than a few minutes), but he seems to be improving by the hour.

Now, cross your fingers I can convince him to sleep in a cage in my room tonight, as he can’t be trotting about unsupervised (he can occasionally be a bit wobbly, and jumping off my bed is a slightly undignified affair) - so far I’m just letting him reacquaint himself with the basement, where my bedroom and the litter boxes and food are. 😉

Bless you all for your prayers for my dear Cosmo! Please pray that he regains the eyesight in his bad eye (that seems to be his only real problem now, other than what seems to be memory loss), too!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, my dear Prayer Warriors. :grouphug:

What a great Christmas present! 🙂 I’m glad he’s improved enough to come home. I’ll continue praying, and keep me updated. May you have a blessed Christmas! 🙂

merry Christmas Deb!
glad to hear that things are improving for Cosmo. It warms my heart

beaming Thank you, dear! He’s doing well - still can’t get him to settle down for a proper sleep, but he’s eating like a horse and just so happy to be back! He has the run of the house today, and seems to be remembering everything now - I am very pleased.

Bless you, and have a most wonderful Christmas! ❤️

Thank you, dear, and a merry Christmas to you too! 🙂 He’s doing just great - a happier, more energetic Cosmo than I’ve seen in a very long time indeed. We are truly blessed!

Thank you so much! HUG! I’m thrilled - it is such a delight to see that happy little skinny creature bouncing around the house … my, I’ve missed the little tyke. And he’s more like his old, happy self than he has been in SO many months … it’s wonderful.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! 😃

Thank you! 🙂

I’m glad he’s doing even better. I sounds like he’ll most likely make a great recovery. I’m sure his continued improvement made your Christmas Day even better than it would have been. As for my dogs, they’re sound asleep from exhaustion. I had my entire family at my house for Christmas dinner, and my three babies were so excited about all the activity and family being here that they spent the day running all over the house, playing, and just generally being the life of the party! 😃 I hope Cosmos is feeling even better then next time you post here! 🙂

Aww, isn’t that wonderful! laughing I love it that they were having such a good time!

Cosmo enjoyed his Christmas immensely - his girlfriend, Ginger, snuggled up for a nap with him, so he FINALLY settled down to relax. He’s been a lot quieter since then - I hope the little guy is still feeling as happy. He’s eating and drinking well and so forth, just kind of restless - it seems to come and go, whether or not he remembers things or not, but he’s really doing well. I am so pleased. 😃

I’m glad! This supports what I’ve been told, that most animals make a good recovery from things like this. 🙂

I sure hope it continues! He started dipping his paw in the water again (he had been notorious for that before this stroke, which is why I think he had one before), so I followed through on my hunch that the reflection in the stainless steel water dish was making it difficult for him to figure out the water level … changed it to blue plastic, and now he’s drinking TONS of water, without dipping. One of the old diabetic girls is making less of a mess with the water too, so perhaps her vision isn’t as great as it could be… so it’s good all around! 👍

Good, I’m glad he’s drinking more water. That will be good for him all around. I pray he continues improving. Isn’t it amazing how much our pets seem to be like children to us? 🙂

It is - and they never grow up, which can be both good and bad! 😉

I am so glad to hear more good news about Cosmo!! I have been praying for him, and for all your family. You guys are real animal people; may God bless you all richly for caring for His wee creatures.

Bless you, dear, and please continue - as of tonight, we have Otis the Cat at the vet’s with one kidney enlarged to 5 times its normal size, and something tumour-like around it … we won’t know for sure until his urinalysis and blood tests come back tomorrow. sigh

Cosmo is still doing wonderfully, though - eating and drinking like mad, entirely on his own (what a joy to see him shovelling away at the dry food dish - it’s been SO many months since he’s done that), and getting more sure-footed as time goes on. The Lord has been very good to me and my kitties!
