Please tell me about New Zealand

I remember having to look up a list of the states once because “New Hampshire” just didn’t sound familiar enough to be one of the 50 states. 😃 Most of my younger students think any country they’ve ever heard of is one of the states. Alternately, they think every state they’ve ever heard of is a country. Of course, these are five and six-year-olds.

Now that you have it narrowed down to God’s country (Colorado 👍) and that other state, come for a visit!

You’ve never really lived until you’ve seen the brightest yellow in creation sitting sitting on a bed of greeeeeeen moss on the side of a tree. I mean, it’s still a slug, and a HUGE slug, but it is a beautiful sight.

Isn’t one of your “sports” teams called the banana slugs?

I hear we have them, but I’ve never SEEN them. And if you think SLUGS are beautiful…how can we trust you when you say that COLORADO is beautiful??

And I don’t recall any sports teams called that…There’s the Beavers (Curse them) The Eugene Emeralds (Yay…I don’t like baseball) and of course…the Oregon Ducks!!!

Let’s all agree though…the Washington Huskies suck!!!

Thankfully, being a Catholic I am not sola scriptura. 😃 Some things are just obvious for those with above average intelligence.

My mistake, the banana slug is the unofficial mascot of UC-Santa Cruz in southern California. An honest mistake – it’s only 30 miles from Interstate 5, which then runs all the way through your state as well. Goodness me, all that California influence in your state…

Some cars around here are still donning “Redwings Suck” bumper stickers from when they knocked the Colorado Avs out of the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2002.

You mean the 2009 game between Texas and Ohio? Well, that sure proves your point about your “sports” teams…😉

We have the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Rockies (though how a mountain range plays baseball is beyond me), the Denver Nuggets (who just made it to the next round of playoffs), and the Colorado Avalanche, not to mention nationally recognized teams at both the University of Colorado - Boulder, and Colorado State University - Fort Collins.

Give it up. We win 😛

That picture of the banana slug does not really convey the size. They are called banana slugs because they are about the size of a small to medium sized banana. Really.

NOPE!!

The hobo spider is a relative to the Brown Recluse, but its not as dangerous. The Recluse does NOT come this far north, I’ve heard.

The hobos are about that size and can be as aggressive, but they’re not as venomous. And they don’t show up that often unless you live in my house…LOL

Though, they fear me now and never come into my room. instead of chasing us like they used to, they now flee in terror from me.

I am the son, and resident spider-slayer of the house. 😉

Its quite often a man’s job to deal with those things. Spiders, mice or bats…Speaking of which, we had a bat in our house…It got up in the corner of the ceiling and I didn’t want to try to hit it and miss, so I went upstairs and got out my paintball gun…Needless to say, the gun was a tad over-powered for the job. I was cleaning up paint, and bat pieces for a litle bit afterwards…

No, no, no…spider SLAYER 😉
I’ve killed spiders with knives, airsoft guns, and even full sized swords. So that’s where the Slayer part came from (Well…Self-named…really)

But my effectiveness against the spiders was tested when they started showing up EVERWHERE shortly after we moved into this house. My mom was afraid since the first one she saw she mistook for a mouse, and it chased her.

I am not afraid of spiders, so when she (or my sister) would find one in their rooms…I’d have to get up in the middle of the night to kill it. It kind of expanded from there.

As for the bat…yes…bat blood and bat pieces…I don’t THINK I have rabies…
But next time I’m using the Airsoft BB gun and NOT the paintball gun…bats are MUCH more fragile than you might think.

I might have to omit Oregon from the list, then…what??? I can’t live somewhere where the spiders can be mistaken for mice.😃 They aren’t even that crazy in Florida. :bigyikes::bigyikes: ***

Wait a second!!

Ok, she first spotted the thing from upstairs…She just saw SOMETHING crawling on the floor. Not nearly as big as a mouse, but she was 30 feet away. It looked big. She got closer and saw that it was a spider. she CLAIMS it chased her, but I’ve never seen them chase…only run in fear of me.

Hobos are about the size of the Brown Recluse, but you’re not going to find them everywhere, like I said. These are so uncommon that I have to tell my friends who live IN TOWN about them.

Don’t discount our lovely state yet!! We need more people like you here! 😃

I discussed this again with hubby tonight. He said Oregon probably over Colorado, he said the weather in Oregon is much milder in certain parts, than Colorado. He then said Arizona? Ugh, I don’t know why he must be in an extremely warm climate.

We discussed New Zealand also…and he is intrigued with that. He then mentioned Buda Pest where his ancestors were raised. I don’t think I’d like to live there, I’d rather be in New Zealand if we decide to ever leave the states. dixieeagle–your description that I relayed to my dh was very convincing, thank you! :)***

Killing dangerous pests is actually not the job of the father, but the son. The reason for this is simple, the father, with the help of the wife, can always make another son. 😉

Go get 'em Belgarion! 🙂
