I don’t know where you get your definition of evil from. In any case, it is morally neutral to make money from a service or product, and is quite sanctioned by God. The POV of the friars is not socialist. On the contrary, it is exactly right. All industry should stem from households as it was in the beginning of the country. Blacksmiths, silversmiths, printers, even taverns and the like were family-run businesses.I didn’t say that. I’m just pointing out that the idea of seeing the industrial complex as the devil’s invention and that earning money via franchises is evil is actually quite socialist.
The industrial revolution took people out of their homes and used the people as nothing more than cogs in a wheel. Now, we’ve evolved a bit, but, I know I am forced to be away from my home and family more than I am with them. In God’s eyes, that is evil. Never mind the unjust wages, and conditions people were subjected to. It has improved, but the price is that it is unsustainable in the current model. Smaller, more numerous units of manufacturing would solve it, but, people would need to willing to have less junk.
What I am saying is that you are trying to tie me into saying something I am not. If you invent a cute character and want to sell or manufature it, go right ahead.
The addiction is on the part of the consumer, not the manufacturer. Unless the seller is using manipulative tactics, and subtle psychological ploys to push their wares. I think that is happening to some degree in the trading card business, but, it’s not like they are slipping us a drug or something. I’m just saying, too much of a good thing is a bad thing. It’s just that some people tend to confuse those with an addiction with those who want to become a part of the industry. Tell me, do you deny that there are comic book geeks or book worms who eventually become creators of their own titles or novels? Those people can be pretty addicted to such things. I mean look at Quentin Tarantino. He started out as a movie buff. Are you gonna tell him his addiction didn’t serve him any good?
