I didn’t say that. I’m just pointing out that the idea of seeing the industrial complex as the devil’s invention and that earning money via franchises is evil is actually quite socialist.
I don’t know where you get your definition of evil from. In any case, it is morally neutral to make money from a service or product, and is quite sanctioned by God. The POV of the friars is not socialist. On the contrary, it is exactly right. All industry should stem from households as it was in the beginning of the country. Blacksmiths, silversmiths, printers, even taverns and the like were family-run businesses.

The industrial revolution took people out of their homes and used the people as nothing more than cogs in a wheel. Now, we’ve evolved a bit, but, I know I am forced to be away from my home and family more than I am with them. In God’s eyes, that is evil. Never mind the unjust wages, and conditions people were subjected to. It has improved, but the price is that it is unsustainable in the current model. Smaller, more numerous units of manufacturing would solve it, but, people would need to willing to have less junk.

What I am saying is that you are trying to tie me into saying something I am not. If you invent a cute character and want to sell or manufature it, go right ahead.
It’s just that some people tend to confuse those with an addiction with those who want to become a part of the industry. Tell me, do you deny that there are comic book geeks or book worms who eventually become creators of their own titles or novels? Those people can be pretty addicted to such things. I mean look at Quentin Tarantino. He started out as a movie buff. Are you gonna tell him his addiction didn’t serve him any good?
The addiction is on the part of the consumer, not the manufacturer. Unless the seller is using manipulative tactics, and subtle psychological ploys to push their wares. I think that is happening to some degree in the trading card business, but, it’s not like they are slipping us a drug or something. I’m just saying, too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

MOAR prufe dat teh Pokemons iz EEEBILLL!!! 😃
Many Islamic religious speakers in the Arab-Muslim nations of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt hold that Pokémon is part of a “Jewish conspiracy” to corrupt Muslim children. They claim that the word “Pokeman” is a Japanese word which means “I am Jewish” (this claim is patently false). One Saudi Arabian Sheikh has written “The Pokémon craze is a Jewish plot aimed at forcing our children to forgo their faith and values and to distract them from more important things such as scientific ambitions.” (Sheikh Abdel Moneim Abu Zant)
Lots of Pokemons!

Sailor continues to look for teh Pokemons DVD in Japaneez.

no, Pokemon is not. I wish people would stop looking for evil…geez louise…enjoy life.

Industrialization raised the standards of living for everyone. You can’t have it both ways—decrying the plight of the poor AND standing against everything that creates wealth.

There is nothing inherently evil about created wealth. There is nothing inherently evil in working long hours. Did you think vegetables farmed themselves?

Farming was sheer slavery. Don’t kid yourself or anyone else about the ‘bucolic life of years past.’

Pokemon, greeting cards, whatever you want to name, are all industries that employ many, many people. Unless you’re a communist, this is a good thing.

Rarely am I in agreement with you… right now, this is one of those moments. XD

No offense, but, I think the Friars of the Immaculta, the same order that St. Maximillian Kolbe belonged to, know a bit more about what is good vs. not good in the world.

I don’t know where or how you were educated, but, the plight of the immigrant peoples, and the people of Great Britain if Charles Dickens’ day speak differently from your POV. Things are better, from a worldly, material POV, but we have lost our soul in the process. You just fail to discern this.
You do know Karl Marx was also around during Dickens’ times right? Despite how much you decry the evils of industrialization, the way you condemn is very reminiscent of the thing that just made it worse: Communism.

Also, to say that we have “lost our soul” is a biased stretch. You think the people of ye ol farming communities were more spiritual than we were? They were also a bunch of superstitious, ignorant, and narrow-minded nuts who burned and exiled anybody who didn’t submit to their limited world view. They weren’t really spiritual you know; their minds just didn’t have anything much to process besides church, work, and home. If you think industrialization did that, then I’m afraid you haven’t been paying attention to what was going on before it came.

Plus, there’s always the fact that in those times, if you’re born a farm boy, you will be a farmer and so will your children, and your children’s children. At least industrialization has given birth to advancements in technology, education, and medicine (which in turn, expand the choices of what you wanna do in life). In our world today, you can be the son of a policeman yet strive to be a doctor and vice versa. That wasn’t so in the days of the Quakers and Puritans.
Plus, that is just this country, and parts of Europe. In Indonesia, China and Asia, life is a living hell for people, particularly children, especially in industrial China which is polluted and filthy, and they live like slaves, manipulated and treated like morons, unless, of course, you tow the Party line. Then you are the manipulator. You want to know what Socialism is, Communism? Check that place out.
Uhh, you do know China is a communist country with a capitalist economy right? :ehh: What you’re describing is what happens when you mix the two: communism corrupts it. It’s the same way it’s now trying to infect the Church with anti-industrialist ideas like yours.
But, mass producing for the sake of making a buck at the expense of families, and community is not worth it. Maybe to you it is, but, if you are Catholic or Christian, family and community trumps all, even if it means sacrifice. If you overstep this, or disregard it, you are in sin.
What, just cuz a lot of people work in one place for a certain portion of the day for a day’s pay means we should all bemoan and get all nostalgic for the days when everyone lived in the little ol towns were people worked in… one place… for a certain portion of the day… for a day’s pay?

The truth is, there really is hardly a difference between a bunch of people working at a factory and a bunch of people working in their farms. The former is only bigger than the latter. Anybody can have a regular job without compromising faith, family, and community. Heck, the entire work place today is another form of community (or am I getting the impression that you’re not in good terms with your office mates?)

What maturity level must you be at to link what I just said to a Communist POV?

You just want to rationalize your childish infatuation with a bunch of childrens’ playing cards by throwing out some idiocy about Marx, just to associate me with something negative. This will bump up your point of view, you suppose. No one is interested in this thread any more, in case you haven’t noticed. I think I’ve killed the thread.

Perhaps if you were a mother, having to leave her child with a babysitter, sobbing with grief, grabbing at your hair and shirt screaming “don’t go, mommy!”, you would have a different perspective. Or, after a long day at work, being faced with making a meal, cleaning up and getting ready for the next day with NO time for silly childish Pokemon cards. That would probably help.

Oh, dear—I can see you’re a mind-reader and that you know exactly the kind of person I am and exactly what my life is like without ever having met me, so there’s no further need to explain my position.

No need to reiterate that wanting everyone to live as we did five hundred years ago at a subsistence level has NOTHING whatever to do with Marx and his scaly brothers of the heart, Stalin, Mao, and every Useful Idiot since.

Those in opposition to free enterprise are never that subtle, once you have learned the cipher to break their code.

Silly childish Pokemon cards. That’s right. They are indeed the spawn of Satan, because if you spend some fun time with your kid playing a game that bores you for the kids’ sake, that’s definitely what Satan wants you to do.

Or if you watch the show yourself for simple relaxation, you are of the devil. But of course. How silly of me not to see this.

“Pikachu, use ten thousand volts!”

Excuse me? Anyone can read your posts and immediately say “Commie”. You rail against franchises, condemn the act of using mass production, and present Catholics with an anti-industrialist world view.

Explain to me how that view is not in any way even the slightest touched by Marxism, then you can talk.

I’ll have you know that I used to run a net cafe and busted by backside having to put up with both noisy kids and obnoxious gamers plus I still had school (not to mention I had to help out hauling gallons of water for my family’s mineral water business that was right next door). If I didn’t have any “childish” stuff like Pokemon or any other past time, you’d bet I’d be the next geek on the newspaper who went on a Columbine-style shooting spree.

Yeah. Waste of time indeed.

Oh and did I mention that I write stuff inspired by those things you decry as a waste of time and money? Wow I guess I’m on the path to the dark side since I’m also planning on using it to entertain people (which to you is, of course, a childish waste of time).

Everybody knows the New York Yankees are the Spawn of Sata which does not leave much room for Pokemon.

The Luddites weren’t Marxist.

You are twisting my words to mean what they do not, and anyone can see that you are just being vindictive b/c I said the cards are a waste of time instead of agreeing with you that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The friars know what they are talking about. They walk the walk. They don’t prowl forums looking for someone to make an *** out of. I think their POV deserves a second look.

Favoring privately owned, family-style business over huge conglomerates, and factories, to anyone else in the universe, would be the exact opposite of Communism, so, that proves you are just being nasty, as I would tell my children.

No dessert for you. :tsktsk: Unless you apologize.

You accuse us of twisting words and what are you doing? I personally never said anything like “POKEMON IS TEH GR8ST TING EVAH!! 8D”. I just think it’s quite condescending to think people are wasting their time on it and don’t give a hoot about the ones who make a living from the franchise. Not to mention, there’s also the fact that the entire entertainment industry inspires people like me to create our own works so that we too can make that kind of money.

But then again, I guess I’m evil for wanting to sell to millions of people all over the globe.

And I think you need to form your own opinion instead of depending on others to do it for you.

Yet it carries anti-industrialist ideals which Marxism is known for. However, though you have successfully differentiated your stance from Marxism, you’ve actually presented another ridiculous world view. Your idea of a family-style business over factories and huge corporations are just plain failures in meeting the demands of a global market.

Or are you going to say that too is a tool of devil?
