I am thankful for the courageous bishops and church officials speaking out obediently for the catholic faith. It’s a sign that the Holy Spirit is being active protecting the Church. The Church does not belong to the changing of times. It belongs to Christ Himself.

Praise God for this archbishop who stands firm in the Catholic faith! Don’t be surprised when you see divisions in this regard. Approved private revelation, especially within the last 100 years, shows that this will be happening. Beware and stand strong in the teachings of the Church!

I’d love to know how the archbishop distinguishes “mercy” from “pseudo-mercy.” I wonder if he considers this the “Year of Pseudo-Mercy.”

Well…what does he mean?

Who has a “pseudo-merciful” attitude toward irregular marital unions? (and is he saying one should be *very *merciful…or not merciful at all?)

And the entire synod and it’s aftermath has yielded tons of discussion about marriage in the church…how has “political correctness” hampered it? Everyone is discussing it! That was the whole point of the synod and why so many views were heard.

Also…there’s no hard and fast rule that the gospels or the word “sin” must be quoted in the synod’s working document. The teachings were there. The working document is the agenda of what topics are being covered during their discussions, it’s not about what is a sin or not.

He certainly doesn’t sound “pseudo-merciful”. In this Holy Year of Mercy, he doesn’t sound merciful even a little bit.

.
All of us are sinners, and we need God’s mercy.

Mercy is indeed a precious gift from God. Pope Francis also has given the Church a great gift by dedicating this year as a year of mercy. This theme of mercy was also echoed by Benedict XVI in his recent interview.

It is merciful to call a sin a sin so that we could have an opportunity self-examine, express remorse, receive the sacrament of reconciliation, receive forgiveness, sin no more, and be in the state of grace with God. Otherwise, it would be a missed opportunity for sinners (meaning all of us) to reconcile ourselves and to be in a state of grace with God because we do not know, or are confused of, what a sin is. Or, as Archbishop Hoser put it “pseudo mercifful.”

Christ and the Church have deemed the situation of divorce-remarriage without an annulment to be a sin. Pope John Paul II also declared it so in his teaching. During the last synod on the families, this issue was discussed. The point Archbishop Hoser was making was that if synod was discussing a sin (although a very difficult matter). Let’s not be afraid to call it a sin, and not be “politically correct” and hesitant to call it so. An analogy to this, in my mind, would be akin to a patient not knowing that he is sick and keeps on going.

My guess:
Mercy is where you forgive people for their sins after they repent because God can forgive anything when asked with a contrite heart and a desire to do better…

Pseudo-mercy is where you tell them their sin is really fine and there’s no need to repent because God will forgive them no matter what even if they intend to stay in sin.

I think you are correct. pseudo-mercy is a false mercy, and a false belief that is beginning to be accepted. May God Bless this archbishop and all the bishops and priests willing to defend the true Church teachings.
