Yes. Virtue policing. Because it’s bogus that my saying “Merry Christmas” to someone who takes offense is somehow my fault and I’m meant to be able to read their mind - or just say nothing.

To put it blunt, it’s stupid.
Agreed. If I say “Merry Christmas” and somebody replies “Please don’t say that to me–I’m (Jewish/Atheist/whatever)” then I should say, “Oh, okay. Happy Holiday then.” And remember not to tell that person Merry Christmas again.
If I ever had a person say that to me, I would make an effort not to say the offending phrase again, but I would also wonder why on earth somebody would be so sensitive as to be offended when no offense was intended. If a Muslim wishes me a Happy Eid, for example, I would be pleased that felt comfortable to include me in their joy and spirit of celebration Seriously, people. Must we be so sensitive?

Would you say “don’t say Happy Hannukah to me” to someone who gave you that greeting? I doubt it. When I was doing the atheist thing I wouldn’t have ever told someone not to say Merry Christmas, or don’t say bless you. That’s kind of a jerk thing to do.

Political correctness is something the Soviets refined to control dissent.

It’s definitely a negative. It’s just that some people confuse being PC with being charitable.

A lot of liberals (not necessarily ones on here) will be quick to tell you that behaviour is not liberal.

Freedom of speech. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Simple as that.

Maybe so, but it’s not my place to police another’s emotions any more than it would be their place to police mine. If somebody hates being wished “Happy Birthday” then to me the courteous response is to not wish them “Happy Birthday” even if I love receiving that greeting myself.

Freedom of speech means the government doesn’t get to censor me for disagreeing with them. It does not mean I get to shout the “N-word” at every Black man I see, or print up bumper stickers that read “gas the Jews” and walk around pasting them on cars.

The government is the entity that fines people. Freedom of speech means that they cannot fine you over a joke. You don’t have to like it or agree with it.

That’s the courteous thing to do, of course. As you say, it’s not your or my place to police language, or anyone’s for that matter, but that’s exactly what political correctness does.

Correction - I misquoted. You said “police emotions”. My mistake.

You know what drives me crazy? When total strangers (store clerks, etc.) say, “Hi! How are you?” as a greeting. I also am seriously annoyed by “Enjoy your day!” and my all-time favorite (insert sarcasm) is “Enjoy the rest of your day!” That doesn’t mean that I would be at all justified in expressing my annoyance at these total strangers who are just trying to be friendly. These are my quirks. I can live with it without being offended.

I didn’t think freedom of speech covers offensive speech. Aren’t that regulations for that?

No, because he stated in the video that it’s a joke to piss off his girlfriend. Honestly, it’s not much worse than something you’d find on Family Guy or South Park. Actually, pretty tame compared to those cartoons.

They can. The point is is that the government cannot censor you unless you have classified information or something.

Obscenity, Child pornography and Fighting words/True Threats are not protected under the First Amendment. There are exception.

Yes. Edgy humor isn’t one of them. You can make politically incorrect jokes.
