whatevergirl, perhaps all this discussion helps you to comprehend the “depths of despair” that many of us, including your husband, are feeling. This isn’t like the Cubs not making it to the Series AGAIN

. It’s deeper and it will affect our children more than us–that’s probably the most heart-sickening thing, to think of our children living in the New U.S. that Pres. Obama is working so hard to create.
Perhaps that’s a good word to describe what I think your husband is feeling–heartsick. It’s not so much despair or lack of trust in God–it’s just deep sadness. One day we’ll remember the way things used to be in the U.S. when we were younger, but when we try to explain the wonders of personal freedom to the young people, they’ll call us old coots and tell us to drop it and live in the now, not the then.
Of course, that’s assuming that the old are allowed to live in this new world. I’m serious. If they really want to stop global warming, the simplest thing to do is kill off the useless members of society–the old, the sick, the deficient, the obese (we REALLY breathe out a lot of CO2, plus consume more resources), the criminals, etc. Let only those who are fit to live expel CO2.
For those of you who say “Trust Christ,” yes, I do. It’s the waiting that’s hard. We see crisis, even apocalypse, coming. The other day there was a cartoon about the future of the U.S. and cannibalism, and my husband, a very logical computer guy, said, “Well, it’s certainly looks possible if the economy continues to cave in.”
My father will be 80 in November, and he’s a life-long
Democrat who is feeling the exact thing that your husband and I and so many others are feeling. He says, “Right now everyone is hopeful because it’s summer and most people still have unemployment benefits, but this winter, when the money is gone and people have no food and no heat, what will the President do then?” I think my dad is remembering the Great Depression, when people ate turnips and grass because that’s all they had.
I would say that at this time, the best thing you can do is pray for your husband and all the rest of us who simply cannot just forget about it. We’re trying to go about our daily business, but everytime I do an activity, I keep wondering how I will ever pay for it when the incomes are taxed to the tune of 60% or more to pay for all the new stuff.
