Beau Ouiville;8287410:
And another poll says:

"Little more than a year ago, most Americans did not know enough about the Tea Party to have an opinion. Now, more people have opinions, and they are hardly positive.

The percentage of people with an unfavorable view of the Tea Party in a New York Times/CBS News Poll this week was higher than it has been since the first time the question was asked, in April 2010. Forty percent of those polled this week characterized their view as “not favorable,” compared with 18 percent in the first poll.

In the first poll, a plurality, 46 percent, said they had not heard enough about the Tea Party to have an opinion (an additional 14 percent were undecided). Now, just 21 percent said they had not heard enough.

The Tea Party may have benefited early on from people not really knowing exactly what it was. "

Notice the link: the ever-leftie, snooty, elitist, and totally out-of-touch New York Times, just one of the propaganda organs for the Powers That Be, who are so absolutely terrified out of their wits by the Tea Party that they have bitten their fingernails down to the quick and have taken to walking barefooted so they can chew on their toes.

What they’re afraid of is that thanks to the Tea Party (and the Internet), a growing number of Americans are not simply listening to what State-Controlled Media tells them to think and then sitting down and doing what they’re told. The Powers That Be see the status quo evaporating into the distance in the very near future, and they see the Taxpayer Gravy Train screeching to a halt soon in An Election Near You. They’re in danger of losing their princely status of gilded kings, of having their lavish lifestyles supported on the backs of the peasants, and they are scared to death.

Here’s an article by Dan Gainor which explains it better than I can:

Let no man ask for whom the bell tolls…
It is interesting to note that in all the accusations against the tea party for being confrontational and in-your-face, no direct quotes or even example are provided.
It would seem that tea party signifies an idea more than it does any tactic or behavior of any single Tea Party member. There is no spokesman for the movement, only the movement itself.
What seems to be confrontational and in-your-face then are the ideas of the tea party themselves.which indeed are confronting the status quo with a radically different way of doing things.
It is not just the Democratic left that is feeling threatened either. The movement has taken the Republican party by storm. Big-spending mainstream Republicanism, the republicanism of compassionate conservatism and unsustainable, projects are being questioned like never before.
It is a uniquely American phenomena. Whereas the streets of Greece are flooded with people demanding more from government, the tea party demands less from government.

That is just wild and unprecedented. It signified an awakening where the voting public will not be paid off with the money that the government robbed from the peoples’w own back pockets. The farce of government promises has been exposed, and the status quo will no longer be the same.

Remember how clean Washington, DC was after the Glenn Beck rally there? And how much trash was left by the One Nation rally?

But, not as clean as when the Jehovah’s Witnesses hit town! Now there’s good example for us. They leave a location cleaner than when they get there.

That admirable cleanliness has what to do with the validity of a group’s ideas, BTW?

Perhaps it reflects the values of the groups in question…maybe a consideration for other people and a respect for public property (those attending the Beck rally) versus the atitude of “to hell with it, it ain’t my job, let somebody else clean it up” (those attending the One Nation rally).

By extension. you could project these attitudes into other aspects of society as well: “I made the mess, so I’ll take responsibility and clean it up, I’ll do for myself” versus “I need somebody to step in and clean this up for me, because I have [insert pet reason, rationalization, victimization delusion, ec. here] and can’t do it myself”.

The one attitude says “We’ll take care of it, if you’ll step out of the way”, and the other says, “Who’s going to take care of us, because we deserve it?”

How do the Witnesses fit in?

It’s a red herring you threw in.
Not at all. The subject of how clean the Tea Partyists are was brought up by other than me.
We were talking about how the rage toward tea parties is based on ignorance.
You say that as though it were a fact. Can that many Americans be wrong about the Party?

As for rage, how about this CAF quote from one who is sympathetic to the Party?:
"Fortunate for the bloated, blood-sucking lawyer class, the tea party and its fiscally conservative common-sense ideals are seen by Americans in a more negative light.

Nice to know that threat is lessening for all those who make a great living off of litigation and red tape, n’est pas?"

Considering the pro-bono work for women and the poor I’ve done over the years, it’s hard to respond to my being described the way that Tea Party supporter described me. N’est pas, Christine?

Clever sophistry Rich. We can easily compare two political groups in terms of their view of government - one says, “we are entitled, do it for us” the other says, “leave us along, quit spending our money, let us help ourselves.” The former leaves their rally area littered, the latter picks up their own trash. A religious group picks up their trash - maybe because they care about their image. I have worked with JW’s in the past and they are very conscious of their image. They want to convert people and wouldn’t want their actions to be seen in a negative light.

Nice piece of work that no one commented on this part: "Fortunate for the bloated, blood-sucking lawyer class, the tea party and its fiscally conservative common-sense ideals are seen by Americans in a more negative light.

And, you and a few others would like me to vote Republican in the next election? Puleeze! We’re don’t exist to be the right-wing’s punching bags and then are supposed to turn around and join the right-wingers on election day. 🤷

I would never refer to you in the way the other poster did above. (don’t think he was referring to you, personally). I am sure you are good at what you do and not a blood sucker. I don’t hold out any hope that you will vote for the GOP, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t engage in spirited (but charitible) discussion of the issues. But what does that have to do with the comparitive analysis of two groups who held rallies in D.C.? And the witnesses.

So, you vote based on how well your ego is massaged? It’s an interesting way to go. Personally, I will vote my conscience, regardless of whether my fellow Catholics call me a racist, bigoted, homophobic terrorist-extortionist. 🤷

What are you talking about? I never called you that? Who did on these forums. I would report it.

Are there any JW’s running for office?

Well, this thread has certainly morphed beyond redemption.

One fact seems apparent from the two polls – As more people learn more about the tea party movement, more folks like it less.
You know, I don’t know much about the Tea Party, but whenever I see representatives of the Tea Party, I think they cause their own problems. Of course people are going to like them less and less, especially when they get on CNN programs and make fools of themselves.

I don’t now if anyone caught American Morning, yesterday morning. Among their guests were two tea party members: am.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/29/tea-party-express-gears-up-for-cross-country-bus-tour/

This “Darvy Van Doren” was arguing with all the hosts saying that the governement had no need to raise the debt limit, that the goverment was lying to us, and that we were in no way of going into default if it wasn’t raised, and that if it wasn’t raised, the government would have just had to prioritize their payments, and that would have been the extent of it.

It was brought to her attention that not just parisan, but worldwide experts, guaranteed that not raising the debt limit would have put the country in default, and she just shrugged and said basically, nope, I’m right and all of them are wrong, with the dude sitting next to her cheering her on like a 2-year-old cheering for Big Bird.

The fact of the matter is, if the debt ceiling wouldn’t have been raised, the country would have defaulted on payments due. If the debt ceiling wouldn’t have been raised, yup, they would have had to pay some bills and not others. Defaulting is defaulting. Add that to the very real fact that the credit rating of the nation would have been downgraded less to what it was, which would have profound effects on us as a country and would have affected us at home and abroad. That’s a fact, like it or not.

No offense to you tea party supporters, to each his/her own and all that, but I have no unearthly clue why someone would vote for a party with these two representing them. They were a joke, and I’m really trying to be nice here. If the party is going to be taken seriously, I’d get some serious representation to tell us what you all are about (if all that wasn’t all true), and send these two to Romper Room.

And if what they’re representation of the Tea Party was correct, well, people will vote according to what they think of them. 🤷

What are you talking about? I never called you that? Who did on these forums. I would report it.
Of course, you wouldn’t make a statement like that about me or anyone else. You are a wholly charitable poster, Christine. This would be a more Catholic-in-spirit Forum if everyone posted as you do - sticking up for what you believe it, forcibly when necessary, but always in the spirit of charity towards others, both those who agree with you and those who don’t.

The day I’d see you post something nasty would be the day I’ll give up on the ability of the Forum to represent a Catholic Forum. 🙂 🙂
