A Methodist is a Methodist until he/she proclaims the profession of faith and is sealed in confirmation then receives Holy Eucharist. If you were baptized Methodist, then raised Catholic, are you saying you would not be bound by the Catholic laws regarding marriage? Catholicism is a profession of faith, not a rite of induction. The Methodist baptism and the Catholic baptism seals the Christian with the same indelible mark that he belongs to Christ.
Until a person is brought into full communion they are not bound by canon law, the very first canon law, “this code of canon law only pertains to Latin Rite Catholics”.
A person baptized as a Catholic in infancy is bound by canon law because they are in fact Latin Rite Catholics. This baptism means much more than just being another Christian, unless as the CCC speaks, when the words Church or Christian are used, it is specifically referring to the only Church, the Catholic one. Anything else is an “ecclesial community.” Remember what Mother Church still holds as truth, “There is no salvation outside of the Catholic Church.” This is stated in the canons of the Council of Trent, and Vat II, Lumen Gentium states this fact.
All salvation flows through His one Church.
What all this means in context with this thread, the pope is Catholic, Latin Rite. He will always be Catholic Latin Rite, so chances of major issues like some mentioned in this thread changing are zero.
Good night folks, May God give us a good night’s rest and a peaceful death!
