Would you mind clicking on “No” and then pressing “Vote Now”, please?

Yes, but we must unite our sufferings and sacrifices for the greater good of the Church.

I voted No, as I am unable to fast due to a medical condition. However, I will be performing an alternate penance, the nature of which I have yet to determine.

I would, but it would be unhealthy for me at this time.

Prayer, definitely, and lots of it, in addition to other penances.

I voted no, as quite honestly, I don’t feel responsible for the abuse crisis and rather object to being told I should feel guilty.
You do realise, do you not, that the Pope’s adjuration does not imply complicity on your part in the scandals? The Holy Father is not implying that you personally are guilty.

In the Pope’s words:
“It is always helpful to remember that in salvation history, the Lord saved one people. We are never completely ourselves unless we belong to a people. That is why no one is saved alone, as an isolated individual. Rather, God draws us to himself, taking into account the complex fabric of interpersonal relationships present in the human community. God wanted to enter into the life and history of a people” (Gaudete et Exsultate, 6). Consequently, the only way that we have to respond to this evil that has darkened so many lives is to experience it as a task regarding all of us as the People of God. "

I will try (although I am currently a bit ill so it might not completely work out).

If I fail I hope God does not hold it against me.

Pope is kind of late to the party since I’m already fasting 1 day a week for priests for months now as part of Flame of Love devotion, and I just started a second day a week for St. Michael’s Lent as part of the Novena for our Nation. 2 days a week is all I can do at this point and I have to break the fasts after 6 pm because otherwise I get feeling ill.

You shouldn’t feel guilty, and that’s not the reason why one would be fasting. It’s an atonement for others’ sins, like what Jesus did for us. He freely chose to offer himself up for us though he was not at all guilty and certainly didn’t feel like he was.

14When they reached the crowd,t a man approached and knelt down before Him. 15“Lord,” he said, “have mercy on my son, because he has seizuresu and suffers severely. He often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16I brought him to Your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.”v

17Jesus replied, “You unbelieving and rebelliousw generation! How long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”x 18Then Jesus rebuked the demon,y and itz came out of him,aa and from that momentab the boy was healed.

19Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and said, “Why couldn’t we drive it out? ”

20“Because of your little faith,” Heac told them. “For •I assure you: If you have faith the size ofad a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.ae Nothing will be impossible for you.af 21However, this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting.”

I plan on trying to fast for 40 days. Jesus fasted for 40 days, and then the devil confronted him. The Church (the Body of Christ) needs to find its demons today.

I was wondering how long it might last. Will you be fasting daily?

It’s no different than when we commit to acts of reparation due to other people’s blasphemy or sacrilege. We don’t feel personal guilt for it, but the effects of that sin still exist and everyone is affected it.

This is why the Pope asks this of us. When one sins, the entire body is harmed. Conversely, when one fasts and prays, all benefit.
