Meh, he sits on a throne at his larger public Masses.
Money? I am sure the Holy See will open their coffers at his beck and call. In effect, it is his money, no?
Actually, it is. It’s Church law that the assets of a diocese are the property of the bishop. Through the centuries the different popes have tried to establish policies and procedures to regulate this. For example, current law does not allow the bishop to use the diocesan assets for his personal gain or satisfaction. On the other hand, there are very few things that he cannot do without the permission of the Holy See.
Since the pope is the Holy See, he doesn’t need anyone’s permission to decide how to use Church assets.
In the case of the papacy, one has to separate that which is a patrimony of humanity held in trust by the Church and that which is actually the property of the Church.
He stands to give his homily though.
They say that he has never taught from a cathedra, because it is contrary to the Jesuit tradition. Remember that Jesuits only accept to be ordained bishop under obedience. But they are not bound to the formalities of being a bishop. They are only bound to the duties of the bishop.
No it’s not, it belongs to the Church and we all make up the Church.
No it does not belong to us anymore than the local parish belongs to the parishioners. This is very clear in Church law. The property of a diocese is the property of the bishop. The property of a religious community is their own. The lay faithful must support these works, but they have no control over them. As I said above. The pope has no one above him.
Maybe Pope Francis will insist on the Vatican giving him an stipend equivalent to that of a parish priest in Rome (and no more)? Or as Bishop of the Diocese of Rome he could arrange this himself out of diocesan funds.
He can actually do both. He can submit an invoice to the Diocese of Rome to be paid as the Bishop of Rome. He can submit an invoice to Vatican City State to be paid as the regent. They’re two separate entities with separate budgets. It does not have to be much. I have no idea how much he was paid in Buenos Aires, but it can even be that much.
I guess it’s the world we live in now but those camera clicks really irritated me watching these two men at prayer

It took me a minute to figure out what that was. I thought there was something wrong with my laptop, which scared the heck out of me. It’s not my laptop. It was given to the community by a lovely woman who purchased it for us so that we could use it to do this. It goes with the job. I have to make sure that when I’m no longer at this post the next person has a laptop.
I kept looking at my computer and then realized that the clicks were not the computer, but someone’s silly camera.
