Pope Appoints 2 Americans to the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization

I had Dr. Ralph Martin for one of my classes at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit.

Really good, I’m very glad for him and for the Church. 👍
 
Curtis Martin’s appointment is exciting. I have seen and experienced many of the great things that FOCUS (an organization to evangelize on university campuses) has done.

Ralph Martin seems to be a bit more reliant on the charismatic renewal than I like. It’s probably just his style, but something about his style seems much more like it belongs in an evangelical Church than a Catholic one.
 
I pray two new American Pontifical Council members will see an interest in the growing Christian Ligature movement coming from the American universities today. Thousands of people are rethinking the Holy Bible as a natural resource for world history especially with all 5 major sciences found within its precious covers. I don’t think that’s accurate. I had him as a professor for a course on the New Evangelization specifically. I really believe he has a solid grasp for the mind of John Paul II (and Benedict XVI) on what they are calling for when they speak of the New Evangelization. The Charismatic Renewal Movement is one renewal movement within the Church that is part of the New Evangelization (which he, of course, acknowledges), but he doesn’t ignore everything else simply because of personal preferences.

He also has his own Renewal Ministries organization which is engaged in this work.

I think both Martins are excellent choices and I cannot think of two better people from the U.S. to represent us in this manner (except, I might have thrown Fr. Barron into the mix as well :p).
