You’re right. It just saddens me that there are so many people out there on the internet who seem to hate our Holy Father.
They don’t hate the man, but what he represents. And, personally, I don’t believe they really even hate our Church, but it is as if they are looking in a mirror and seeing the evil that they are carrying in their own hearts. Let’s be sure to pray for them while we keep the Holy Father and all the Cardinals in our prayers. They have been so deluded by the Evil One.

😦

To paraphrase Archbishop Fulton Sheen:
Not more than 100 people in the United States hate the Catholic Church, but millions hate it for what they mistakenly believe the Catholic Church is.

Of course if there is one thing that unites liberal and conservative Catholics alike its the repudiation of apoclyptic prophecies. BTW, LaSalette is approved and our Current Pope as a Cardinal, approved of Akita and they get quite apoclyptic.
Jesus said no one knows of that hour. If he excluded himself, it is a sure bet that folks like whoever wrote this St. Malachy stuff and Nostrodamus are also exclued. I do like repudiating those things that Jesus repudiated.

I totally disagree that it is compelling. There is way too much vagueness and too many stretches to that have to be made to make things fit. The thing about apocalyptic writing and newspaper horoscopes is that these formats allow for such stretches.

Do not stifle the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test everything and retain what is good.
1 Thess 5:19
There is equal consternation with those who are so secular they forget the prophetic voice of the Spirit and accuse those who are trying to discern spiritual matters of being part of the tinfoil hat brigade.

Don’t think that during the upcoming conclave there will not be a battle of unseen principalities. I for one, will be doing special devotions to Our Lady.

I do not think anyone has forgotten the prophetic voice of the Holy Spirit, but as Catholics (what this place is for, in case we forget), we simply are not supposed to choose for ourselves that which is authoritative. That is what the other Christians do. Catholics (in theory at least) trust the Holy Spirit speaks through the Body of Christ here on Earth.

That is why when things like this prophecy, extrabiblical gospels, etc. pop up, we should not be discerning to accept anything not accepted by the Church. I guess we can accept anything we want for personal spiritual edification, at least that is not forbidden and contradictory of the faith. But when I see that stuff posted here and even promoted, that crosses from personal edification to public approval.

Jesus said no one knows of that hour. If he excluded himself,.
But we can know the season(cracks me up when people leave that part out). Why would scripture give us so many clues if we weren’t supposed to be watching for the season? Scripture doesn’t randomly babble for no reason.

I’d love to see either one, but there’s a very strong reason why not. Since the US is the last super power, it would give the impression of the US influencing the Catholic Church, or the other way around and that would cause serious problems for both.
Funny thing is, turn this reason around and you get the argument people posed against electing Kennedy as president…

I was referring to Matthew 24:36 where Jesus was plain as to his return remaining unknown, yet not all agree as to whether we know the seasons. Remember that Jesus was answering two questions in the Olivet Discourse. He told the disciples that “this” generation would not pass away" until this season discerned event occurred. The only event within the life of the disciples was the destruction of Jerusalem.

We are given some lattitude of disagreement on understanding this, of course. The point is, I did not omit it. I simply do not believe that we will know. Nor do I believe that we are supposed to be watching for it if that is taken to mean guessing when the end is coming based on the state of the world. In light of past global events in the last 2000 years, then we could have “discerned the season” a dozen times over.

According to the book, “The Last Pope” by John Hogue, (published by Element Books Ltd 2000,) Benedict XVI was the penultimate pope (for what that’s worth). Personally, I view the prophesies of St Malachy as being somewhat in the same vein as those of Nostradamus. i.e. capable of being interpreted to suit ones’ paradigm. However, what does anybody else think about it (the statement in the book I mean)?

Protector
On Catholic Answers Live yesterday, Carl Keating said these prophesies were a hoax. Someone forged St. Malachy’s signature to them centuries after his death.

From my city…

St. Thomas students say Pope’s resignation saddening, shocking

HOUSTON - It’s a resignation that has shocked millions around the world, and it’s a hot topic at the University of St. Thomas where the Pope Benedict the 16Th is something a rock star.

St. Thomas is an awesome, faithful Catholic university, and I loved that they talked to faithful students for this article. No “I think the next Pope should allow birth control!” I love the last quote:

"As for Aboytes, she asks only one thing of the next pontiff.
“First of all, very faithful to the teachings of the church,” Aboytes said. “Anything else, it doesn’t matter.”

AMEN!

No-one knows the day or hour, not even the Son, much less St Malachy
Thank you for reminding us and you are quite right! I pray the next Pope will be a strong leader for us all.:grouphug:

The article, a small snippet, in the context of what the Cardinal says, points to focusing on the positive things rather than “condemning this or that.” I don’t think he means the Church’s policy toward contraception should be overhauled; but I may be wrong.
That seems to be the case.

IMO this sounds a lot like the “removal” of the Friday meat abstinence back in the 60’s. Pope Paul VI appealed to one’s higher spirituality to abstain but it came across as a blank approval to eat meat on Friday. Thie same may or may not happen here but just saying.

Does anyone know if Benedict the XVI will have a full traditional funeral when he passes? Will he be lying in repose and have a set number of days of morning?
