Speaking in response to the Nov. 13, which are the deadliest acts of violence the city has seen since the World War II, the Pope said he is “moved and pained” by what happened, and expressed his closeness to those affected by the tragedy.

“I am close to the people of France, to the families of the victims, and I am praying for all of them,” he said.

“These things are hard to understand,” he said, adding that he “loves France very much.”

At least 128 people are confirmed dead and more than 180 wounded in terrorist attacks which targeted bars, restaurants, a concert hall, and a football stadium in the heart of Paris on Nov. 13. Around 80 people are listed in critical condition, according to the BBC.

The deadliest attack came when militants overtook the Bataclan concert hall, in which at least 82 people were killed, after the terrorists had siezed dozens of hostages.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing the terrorists cry out “Allahu Akbar!” – Arabic for “God is Great!” The terrorists carried out the siege with suicide bombs and semi-automatic weapons. Police have said all eight attackers are dead.

In the wake of the attacks, Paris archbishop Cardinal André Vingt-Trois in a Nov. 14 statement appealed for the grace to be “artisans of peace.” He stressed that “we must never despair of peace if we are to build justice.
“Faced with the violence of men,” he said, “we can receive the grace of a steadfast heart without hate.” The French prelate called for people to not give in to panic or hatred.

“This morning I pray and I invite the Catholics of Paris to pray for those who were killed yesterday and for their families,” Cardinal André Vingt-Trois continued. He also called for prayers for the injured, those working to help those affected by the crisis, and the nation’s leaders in order that they “remain together in unity and peace of heart.”

“We ask for the grace to be artisans of peace. We must never despair of peace, if you justice,” he said.

The BBC reports that French president Francois Hollande has called the attacks “an act of war” by ISIS.

The French president declared a nationwide state of emergency soon after the rampage began and closed the country’s borders. Parisians were urged to stay in doors.

This is the second and deadlier of two sieges against Paris by Islamic terrorists in 2015. 12 people were killed on Jan. 7 when Islamic terrorists stormed the headquarters of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

News agencies were reporting that only 30% of the people “immigrating” were from Syria, while the rest were from all over the Middle East. There were many calls of warning about so many young, muslim men coming over without being identified. I am very afraid that this isn’t the last terrorist action that we are going to see in Europe. I can’t recall America or any other countries taking in refugees from Germany and Japan in WWII while the Allies were still at war with those countries.
It is not as if all the people in those countries who were suffering were evil, but it is just not a rational policy to allow enemy agents access to your shores.

Since Westerners do not take the fact that radical Islam is at war with them seriously after the wake up call of 911, the army is now in the very heart of their cities, and continually streaming in even now, unimpeded and even aided by the powers that be.

That’s an important point, especially now that it is being reported one of the attackers was a refugee and apparently was on the Greek island where refugees landed. This story is just breaking.

The stance of the pope, with all the nuances seen and unseen, likely is the correct, authentically Catholic one, from a theological point of view. He also speaks of the likelihood of infiltration by ISIS, and limits his response to a refugee problem to the level of the personal response of individual families and parishes.

However, what the pope often fails to take note of is that his position as a speaker in a public forum from the highly visible Chair of Peter does not just involve theology and the personal, but the role of politics and diplomacy are critical to his every public uttered word.

Political messages are not measured in full arguments, but in sound bytes. Without serious control of the inflow of people from the Islamist sewers of the House of Islam, the Syrian war is now about to be waged in the streets of Europe.

I would welcome a statement from the Pope that the young men leaving the Middle East may have a duty to stay and fight for their freedom and the safety of their families. This would be difficult in an area with no history of freedom of speech, religious liberty, freedom of the press, and little understanding of the dignity of the individual. Christianity and Islam are very different in these areas.

We did take refugees but was extremely limited. A ship full of Jewish refugees from Germany was not allowed to land here but had to go back where all were killed. I think at that time you either had to know a friend or family that sponsored you and the same after the war. In this case though, that should have been lifted but there was a great deal of anti-Semitism in our country at the time.

That refusal of Jews was before the war.
It was not based on any consideration that Jewish Germans were enemies of the American state, but was based on the fact that they were Jews.

That is nothing like the current situation. The statue of liberty was never in a position where Jewish refugees would be attacking it as a result of being given refuge.

Yes, I can see how this act is “piecemeal” after I looked it up. The assailant group is knowingly waiting for the “other cheek to be turned”. The assailant group responsable is calculative and purposeful. In the states, the Massacre’s are mainly due to crazy people, and include a large number of children (Columbine, Sandy Hook, ect) Interesting how each target on Friday’s attacks excluded most children, and targeted ideologies hated by judgemental peoples (heavy metal consert, resturants).

I would imagine they feel it is their duty to be judge, jury, and executioners based off the targets they picked. Further, future targets will probably have the same moral displacement as judged by this group of assailants.

What this enemy is a bit like is that in World War II, there were Kamikaze Suicide Pilots, that is a topic in itself. Now, we have suicide bombers working with some of the same kind of fervor and unfortunately, seeming very numerous.
