Kettle-black [British slang for, you’re no better]. Didn’t you see the decree from Her Majesty I posted a while back? 😉 We’re waiting for our uncollected taxes dating back since then! Now I’m having fun, but you were trying to insult me. I’ll accept an apology by cheque.
I do think that the UK would be a horrible place to live. I don’t care if you’re insulted. I moved from a state that’s very nannying to one where I have freedom. Thank God it still exists. I’d rather move to some 3rd world countries than the UK.
MRSA is already living on your skin. It lives on the skin of 33% of people, harmlessly and quite happily. No need to believe the papers. It’s only a problem if it not only gets into your blood but in such a high amount that you get sepsis. I work in hospitals, 5 days a week, on the actual wards.
All infections can be potentally dangerous.
However, I percieve that it is prudent to take all necessary precautions.
So, knee pads, elbow pads, training wheels, wrist gards, helment and kevlar vest to bike to the store for a newspaper then?

That sounds fine to me, what you seem to think seems based mainly on ignorance rather than fact but I don’t think we’ll miss you.

Bit of an vague statement, but yes. And?

Hey, I only said you needed the helmet. It was you who are scared of getting MRSA bactarimia in the blood from a grazed knee, you suggested the knee pads - not myself.

Actually I’m very close to someone with dual citizenship…and that person wouldn’t live over their either.

And the “experts” in infection would also say do everything to prevent it.

You said take every precaution necessary. That would include knee pads.

Well, if Mr/Mrs Somebody says so, it must be true.
And the “experts” in infection would also say do everything to prevent it.
Not necessarily. Because sometimes that ‘everything’ can cause more problems than it tries to cure. Killing all of your natural skin flora isn’t always the best way to go, but in hospitals we tend to assume that people already have it unless proven otherwise so ask patients to use certain soaps, etc.
You said take every precaution necessary. That would include knee pads.
Exactly, ‘necessary’ - not every precaution available. I would describe those which prevent life-threatening illnesses such as helmets are necessary, whereas knee-pads aren’t.

Point being, there are people who dislike your country. And in America we’re free to do so.

According to you kneepads arent. What happens when your wonderful government decides that they are necessary. Again, since they like to regulate things lets just say they start regulating that you must wear knee pads. Are you going to wear them or draw the line there?

Oh, in the UK we have to love you or we got shot outside the communes. Oh if only I could have my own opinions, woe is me. I must stand in line now for my rations…

Why would they decide they are necessary? Loads of people were being killed/brain damaged/injuried because they didn’t wear seatbelts/helmets so it became mandatory, part of the highway code. Unless we start seeing deaths because of kneepads, there’s no reason to legislate it. 🤷

Isn’t that your neighbor to the east? Watch out, you’re beginning to emulate them.

Then what about helmets during ice-skating especially ice dancing and syncronized skating. That’s VERY dangerous and some go faster than a child bicyclist. Do you think professional skaters…and those learning should be MANDATED to wear a helmet?

Purple! How dare you try to argue for personal liberty! The state takes care of EVERYTHING. Just shut up, wear your seatbelt, and don’t ask questions! 😃

Ah, that old ‘you’re communists’ opinion of Britain from an American. Been a while since I’ve heard that. Well, you know, we have nationalised healthcare WITHOUT a red-army. It is possible to have more socially-friendly government policies without being a Comrade. 😉

With ice-skating, you’re basically standing up, so when you’re fall you’re far more likely to land on your bum or your legs, because it’s very unlikely that your head will ever hit the ground first. On a bike however, you can go over the handlebars etc and have no time to fall in a ‘safe’ way and put your hands out/land on your bum.

I think you’re just being silly now and trying to change the subject and make me out to be a wierdo commie who thinks everyone should be covered in cotton-wool. I’m not really but its surprising what you learn about yourself when someone’s on the offensive and appears very determined to insult you and your country. 🤷

I see there is more room on the bandwagon.

Why is it that Britain is always portrayed as a nanny/imperalistic/communist/socialist/monarchist/class-warfare-ridden characature?

Oh yeah, because this is the internet and everything is possible. Also, it doesn’t appear to be mandatory to know what you’re talking about. 🤷

Right, becasue if we don’t agree with you, we’re just jumping on the bandwagon. What a sad way to think.

I’ve been to Britain several times, was born there, and my grandparents, aunts and uncles still live there. I never claimed to be an expert on British culture, nor do I think Britian is what you said. Next time, please don’t jump to conclusions or be so defensive.

Uhhh yeah, I’m one of those people who think you should keep your nationalized health care…not in my country.

There are several stories of profesional skaters struck blind or badly injured from a fall…even landing on the wrist first, your head still makes contact and at that speed and velocity, it’s dangerous.

You’re the one who said you still owned my country. And all I’m saying is that you’re drawing the lines beucase you’ve been contditionded to believe your laws are fine, however, when presented with another, equally ridiculous sceniro you claim that I’m being ridiculous.

Well, while the number 1 reason for bankrupcy is healthcare bills in yours, I’m happy to get the same treatment and have the same life expectancy for a small tax. I personally would hate to live in a country where I had to pay for private insurance and be constantly worried about getting ill and how much it would cost.

I made it clear in my posts that I was having fun and making jokes, as I am known to occasionally do on this forum. You however, were being serious. I haven’t been conditioned to believe anything, whereas you I think have been conditioned to distrust government and that I think is a sad thing.

reason.org/news/show/do-seatbelt-laws-save-lives
Most states have enjoyed progressively safer streets, often regardless of the harshness of their seatbelt laws. In 2002, of the 10 safest states, five had primary enforcement laws and five did not. Of the top five, only one had primary enforcement. And New Hampshire, the only state with no seat belt law, had nation’s third safest streets. In other words, the link between tough seat belt laws and lives saved is more tenuous than politicians let on.
not the article I was looking for but a good one never the less as it does quote staticits.

Having guns is a GOOD thing only when you’re not the one staring down a barrel of a gun.
Absolutely.

Which is why guns should always be legal.
If they are not, then only those criminals that have little regard for life or law will have guns.
And law abiding citizens will be the ones staring down the barral of the gun.

Helmets should be law as well as seatbelts, cause it’s clear that people need to be told to do it otherwise they won’t take care of themselves.
Perhaps you can think of it as an American thing, but the government has no place in the matter.
If a motorcycle rider chooses not to wear a helmet, the risk is his own.

The government should not be making personal choices for people.

It’s not so much “the government” as the requirements being part of the highway code, which is a legal document. It has a practical use as its a grounds for which the traffic police can prosecute parents who don’t seatbelt their children in the car.

But if they are, we’ll see more crime, more injuries, and more murders. Whether its the shopkeeper shooting a robber, or a robber shooting a shopkeeper, there’s always going to be violence, as violence begets more violence.

What about insurance though?

Should a helmetless cyclist pay the same rates? How about someone who shuns seatbelts?

I just had an accident that cost over $10,000. It could have been100’s of thousands…if I had no seatbelt…plus any life insurance DH would have collected God forbid I had died.
