Pope Francis and Donald Trump meet at Vatican

I read that the Pope gave President Trump a copy of his writings (which I think is a traditional thing for Popes to give to world leaders, but I could be wrong), and the President gave him some of Rev. Martin Luther King’s speeches.
 
Not sure why Melania and Ivanka wore veils, it’s not required nor necessary.

From my view, it came across as they’re own stereotype of what was necessary in meeting the Pope.

Melania’s veil looked weird.

Many women have met Pope Francis and other Pope’s, but did not wear veils.

My wife asked if they were going to a funeral.

It was a 30 minute meeting. Not sure they could have had a very in depth discussion about anything in 30 minutes. Then they were given a tour after a photo session.
I don’t think CNN and MSNBC and CBS have been giving a lot of coverage to this important trip. They have preferred to talk about
Russia and the hearings.
The Trump team probably had to compete in the Italian media for coverage vs. the Obamas who are staying at the villa that belongs to Obama’s ambassador to Italy somewhere around Tuscany. Obama has been in Italy since he gave his speech on climate change.

She didn’t look subdued when she slapped Trumps hand away earlier in the trip. She was in her full Eastern European Woman mode (I was married to a Russian previously, I know what that’s like).

:rolleyes: I just watched an entire segment on MSNBC about the meeting. MSNBC had a Catholic representative on and a Baptist. The Catholic lady said Catholics have a lot to be pleased about with the meeting. The Baptist agreed Francis and Trump share views on religious liberty. But he did mention Trumpcare hurts people considering the estimates of how many people will lose their healthcare.

I saw the Pope gave Trump his writings on climate change. Now only if Trump would actually read the Pope’s words and take them to heart.
 
That hasn’t been a requirement for decades.

They’re to dress modestly, but not required to dress in black and cover their heads.

They’re not meeting the leader of the Taliban.
