Arriviste or Bourgeois. Hardly classy
I think you’re thinking in social and cultural/educational terms (perhaps ancestral) and not just in terms of wealth or income.

But I can’t really delve into distinctions beyone arriviste or bourgeois, having virtually no knowledge of anyone beyond that level. As a petit bourgeois in every way one can name, I do not travel in the truly “upper class” circles. 🙂

(My wife may claim I have peasant manners at times, but I think that’s only when she’s angry.)🙂

They were purchased in the same way a armed man giving me $10 purchases my Rolex. Prior to Thatcher de-nationalizing the industries, the UK was on it’s way to third world status. I’m not sure how allowing a formerly great nation to devolve to third world status is of benefit to the “people”. People were arguably living materially better during “The Blitz” than they were during 1960s and 1970s Great Britain.
My wife left Wales in 1963 and agrees with your assessment.

Next time your wife says that you can assure her that the Aristoctacy have no manners at all 😃

Lovely Town lovely friendly people with a great sense of humour. And the ability to tell a story as only someone from a South Wales Valley can Lots of hardline Trade Unionists 😃. I was there on 18th Dec. Tell her I’m currently in Barry Island I’m sure she’s been here a few times for a bit of sea (sun desirable but unlikely)

I will-we will probably be over there next June.

What (just for arguments sake) they were made illegal and difficult to buy. A shooting in the UK is still headline news. Guns in the hands of criminals are relatively rare, but come in from Eastern Europe (many made in the US thanks guys)
You’re welcome, now you can thank us for sending you arms during the Lend Lease act, most of which you never paid for, and don’t forget the NRA drive that sent firearms donated by civilians that never came back to them either, all to keep you from having to speak German.

Me? I’m Irish sorry

Thanks I was actually there the late 1970s were bad but nothing compared to Thatchers Britain. NOTHING
Thatcher was PM for 11 years, winning 3 separate national elections. If Thatcher’s Britain was so bad, how did she manage to win 3 elections by significant margin (each of her victories was by more than 10%)?

My favorite Thatcher quote" “the problem with socialism is sooner or later you run out of other peoples money to spend”

I was actually looking at the apostles who left family gave away all their possessions and followed Jesus. They shared everything up to an including the Last Supper.
Yes they did – out of love for Christ. Do you think you practice virtue if the state coerces you to share your wealth with the poor?

What if I don’t feel coerced and instead am happy the state takes on the responsibility of sharing my wealth with the poor?

If you’re happy with the job the government is doing for the poor, you must not like the poor very much.

I believe I said I’m happy that the state takes on the role of distributing my wealth to the poor. I can quibble about how the job gets done but the state is far more effective at managing distribution than I would be.
