I’d read it all. It’s a beautiful challenge to all of us.Thank you. I did read some of what he said. I did like what he said about tenderness.

I wondered what the guidelines were. That’s highly unusual. TED asks all speakers to keep their talks to 18 minutes or less.
For some, the Magisterium of the Republican Party takes precedence over the Catholic MagisteriumIt sounds like you are saying you are only interested in listening what Pope Francis says if it confirms your own beliefs (my apologies if I am wrong here).
No that is not what I am saying. Yes you are wrong. It sounds like you are saying you are only interested in listening what Pope Francis says if it confirms your own beliefs (my apologies if I am wrong here).
I think his point was that Catholics don’t have to follow politicians. For some, the Magisterium of the Republican Party takes precedence over the Catholic Magisterium. Not naming names…just noting a trend.
Thank you!I think his point was that Catholics don’t have to follow politicians.
They can follow Christ and use their own initiative.

My apologies. I only asked because your first few posts to the thread asking about content and trying to separate “theological” issues from “global warming” gave a distinct impression you were interested in a talk about one and not the other. No that is not what I am saying. Yes you are wrong.
I’m 65. I have heard enough about global warming and climate change in my lifetimeMy apologies. My point is more that the Holy Father issued an encyclical, the highest level of papal magisterial teaching (short of defining a dogma), that was all about our absolute moral imperative to do in all in our power to care for the environment. I’ve seen too many Catholics make excuses to completely ignore this encyclical. Its one thing to ignore comments he makes off the cuff day-to-day - some such comments have made me uncomfortable as well… but the environmental stuff? He explicitly added it to the Church’s body of magisterial teaching.I think his point was that Catholics don’t have to follow politicians.

I think God expected mankind to care for the planet. To do otherwise is folly. Have dominion, but take care of it too.My point is more that the Holy Father issued an encyclical, the highest level of papal magisterial teaching (short of defining a dogma), that was all about our absolute moral imperative to do in all in our power to care for the environment. I was simply echoing the Holy Father’s own wording:I think God expected mankind to care for the planet. To do otherwise is folly. Have dominion, but take care of it too.
I don’t think he added anything.
I’m out.
(emphasis added)It is my hope that this Encyclical Letter, which is now added to the body of the Church’s social teaching, can help us to acknowledge the appeal, immensity and urgency of the challenge we face.

Why not explain the theme? Is it about Jesus or not? Why hide the theme? I get the impression that Jesus isn’t mentioned, except possibly to disparage a certain group of Catholics. If you have time for all these posts, you probably have time to watch it.
Its about the importance of taking care of each other, which was also the theme of Jesus’ ministry, if you recall. Jesus comes up, as does Christianity. The transcript didn’t take much more time to read then it took me to post this summary. Why not explain the theme? Is it about Jesus or not? Why hide the theme? An 18 minute video is significantly longer than four sentences. Its about the importance of taking care of each other, which was also the theme of Jesus’ ministry, if you recall. His comments were ostensibly aimed at using technological development to help each other, rather than just help ourselves, so I guess it was “T”.TED

What category does it fall under?
Good enough for me!His comments were ostensibly aimed at using technological development to help each other, rather than just help ourselves, so I guess it was “T”.
