Pope Francis - holiest man alive today

If you can see that your dad was a good hearted man, have faith that God will see infinitely more good in him and he will be saved - even if as through fire.

@Mavzylor posted this on another (very similar) thread and I have to repost it because I whole heartedly share the sentiment.

Pope Francis is despised by both the hardcore Democrats AND Republicans - a sure sign of sanctity when the world hates you as it hated Jesus.

Hmmm. I try to steer clear from stating someone is the holiest man (or woman) alive. That seems a little presumptuous even if it is the Pope. I do say that some folks are holy but not that they are holiest. I’ve seen folks with uncanny nacks for holiness that would rival any of the last three Popes. Just ordinary people that go about their daily lives. And that’s not to say that Pope Francis isn’t holy.

Not trying to rain on the party here. Pope Francis is undoubtedly holier than me.

After reading the “Dictator Pope” many of my fears about Pope Francis were confirmed. I will continue to pray for him. We all need prayers.

If Therese of Lisieux’ writings had not been published we would never have known about one of the greatest saints ever. I think there are 1000s of people like her who are holy without many people who know about it; quiet nuns and monks, priests but also lay people. What about Christians in places like Iran or Saudi Arabia who do not abandon Jesus? Now don’t get me wrong, pope Francis is absolutely fantastic but the holiest of them all (if we can meassure holiness) i’m not sure

I can’t say I agree that Pope Francis is DESPISED by both hardcore democrats and republicans. That is a strong statement. Can you give me an example of a hardcore
democrat? Nancy Pelosi? Joe Biden?

I really love Sister Briege McKenna.

To start with, she’s Irish. 😎

If I hadn’t read her writings, I wouldnt’ve known to offer ordinary (little) mortifications (e.g., smiling and speaking when you don’t want to, picking the less preferred option, etc)

Not that I do even the trifling mortifications all the time… _

I don’t really see how that follows. What about the people in the middle? Do they hate him too?

I like Pope Francis, he’s done me some good spiritually.
He’s certainly getting persecuted by his own people like Christ was.
I don’t feel I know him well enough to love him like a dad (I respect him like a Pope) or think he’s uber-holy though. And it’s not just him, I feel that way about all the Popes in my lifetime. I like and respect them all, though it took me a little more time to warm up to Benedict and Paul VI than the others.

The last person I thought was visibly uber-holy walking around on earth was Mother Theresa.

Would any of you agree that at least as far as you can see the Holy Father is literally the most Christlike man on Earth?
I like Pope Francis, but no, I would not agree that Pope Francis is literally the most Christlike man on Earth.
If you disagree, do you have somebody you can name who you personally think exudes the Holy Spirit more than the Holy Father?
I believe there may be “saints in the making” walking Earth today, very few if any, can approach, with any measurable distance, and merit the title of Christlike. One who does seem to be walking the footsteps towards Sainthood is Cardinal Sara.
Any really holy monk or Priest you know who literally every time they open their mouth it’s as if Christ Himself were speaking?? Or very holy Nun whose every word seems to be a word the Blessed Virgin inspired and would have spoke herself?
No, and I think if we were to find one within shooting distance of that ideal they would immediately discourage us from thinking that, if they were worth their salt.

if we are going to have had a jesuit as Pope;

i’d’ve wished it was Father Pacwa

The Pope is a wonderful example of courage in proclaiming what’s right, regardless of how awkward it may be.

As for everyday holy people, I know some at a parish I visit. They’re a married couple and they devote every spare moment to practical charitable works, I have no idea how they manage to do it all. The man has been very ill this last year and he’s still kept going.

The same way people sensed John the Baptist was a Prophet.

Spiritual discernment. A gift of the holy Spirit which allows you to discern good from evil.

Are you sure that’s not tainted by a political agenda----remember God sees ALL.

No.

Unlike some people, I don’t drag politics into everything.

I’m actually becoming more apolitical now. The US political landscape has sickened me to the point where I’ve simply washed my hands of it.
