Pope Francis is despised by both the hardcore Democrats AND Republicans - a sure sign of sanctity when the world hates you as it hated Jesus.
If this were the case, people would not be making lame excuses for people they agree with or their friends and family on Facebook.

Been on here long enough to know with utmost certainty that is happens and people are too proud to admit it.

You lost me there, but I’ll be the first to admit I don’t peer so deeply into social media.

What do you think about Pope Francis?

SuperLuigi has made it pretty clear he’s less than enthused about Pope Francis.

With love and fidelity, I pray for Pope Francis and all the bishops to remain true and faithful to Christ and the Magisterium. I further pray that they, with humility and fidelity, exercise proper restraints and prudence in expressing personal and polical opinions that may be seen or interpreted as Church teachings or Magisterium.

Most of all, I pray for God’s will be done.

“Any really holy monk or Priest you know who literally every time they open their mouth it’s as if Christ Himself were speaking?? Or very holy Nun whose every word seems to be a word the Blessed Virgin inspired and would have spoke herself?”

That I know? That’s the thing. We don’t know them; they’re cloistered, having left all of their desires – the desire to be seen living a life of ostentatious “humility,” for instance – to imitate more closely a truly humble Christ. Their prayers, I am sure, do far more for the good of the world than any of Pope Bergoglio’s off-the-cuff and often confusing comments.

I have to agree with you there. I detest US politics. Both parties serve up nothing but dogfood.(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Would any of you agree that at least as far as you can see the Holy Father is literally the most Christlike man on Earth?
No!

I think we really need to pray for our Holy Father, who has said things that are not Christ like at all, Christ was not ambiguous especially on matters concerning adultery, that’s why Christ was hated and put to death. Love of the world is anmity with God. James 4:4

Thank you for reading.

The Pope would not teach us to think that holiest person and most famous holy person are the same thing.

As has been pointed to me numerous times, a lot of people on here apparently are 3rd party or not even in the USA.

But he is the pope (and, by the way, even human courtesy, much less religious deference, would have you refer to him by his proper name as Pope). His role IS to speak publicly. And it is not up to you do declare what does more good for the Church or for humanity.

Seriously, I would rather give deference to the Holy Father than to some anonymous commentator on social media.

A living saint … is that in French we call “papolatrie”, ie the idolatry of the pope.
Whether a pope is a living saint or not is a problem between him and God.
What I expect from the pope is that he confirms to me in the Faith that the Church has always taught since 2000 years, but François makes me doubt. What I expect from the pope is that it brings answers to doubts (“dubbia”) and to all the interrogations that a part of the people of God put to him. What I expect from the Pope is that he first dialogue with his faithful, even the most “rigid” before to dialogue with imams and Lutherans …

@Mboo Accusing somebody who loves and reverences his holy Father of idolatry is a real low move. And make no mistake - using a portmanteau of “papal” and “idolatry” is doing just that… before you say you weren’t doing just that.

I don’t pray to Pope Francis or worship him.

I admire him as a courageous person, I look to him as an example of Christ for me to follow, and I give him submission of my religious mind and will in accord with obedience and Catholic Faith.

There are some people whom the Church gives us as an example and who can be imitated from a certain point of view (not in every respect, Jesus and Mary alone being to be imitated from every point of view), and she has never proposed a living person as an example to follow
and I give him submission of my religious mind and will in accord with obedience and Catholic Faith.
Obedience is a moral virtue that is subject to prudence like all moral virtues. When one practices a virtue without prudence one risks to commit a sin.
But to obey you must understand precisely what the superior wants from you (it is necessary to imitate the Virgin Mary, she asked God “how it will happen since I do not know man” before submitting to the will of God. …).
But when we ask questions to the Pope to enlighten our intelligence so that it submits, he ignores his children, but is quick to dialogue with Muslims and Protestants …

A living saint? He threw in the towel, which no pope had done since 1406! And the five popes who had done it in the past did it under very extreme circumstances. He did not. That’s his choice and I respect it. But I think it takes him out of saint consideration.

I think the Church will disagree with your thinking when he passes.

Yeah probably. That just cheapens sainthood in the eyes of the average person, but I imagine you’re right.

Threw in the towel? He was 86 years old then…
Have the minimum of consideration and care for a man of his age…
Or do you believe seniors, grandparents, people of his age are oxen to be used until they burst?

Geesh! A Titan and still praying for us. Heartfelt thanks,Pope Emeritus!
Merry Christmas to all!
