Hi. Pope Francis gave Obama a copy of Laudato Si in which Pope Francis had used reason to explain why abortion is wrong in a way that environmentalists might understand.

All I have seen from Trump so far is him making headway in making sure that Planned Parenthood don’t get any further with their evil plans and diabolic acts.
Well he just signed the PP funding into law so that headway might have to wait.

The Pope actually did seem to enjoy the company of Obama a lot during his visit to DC. And while I am sure he disagreed with Obama on the abortion issue, the Pope actually does care about a variety of other issues, the poor, healthcare, the environment and climate change, immigration, the death penalty, excess profiteering, the growing economic gap between the rich and everyone else, a better distribution of wealth, and does not limit himself to one issue and has even asked the faithful to spend less time talking about abortion and SSM and contraception…

“We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods. This is not possible. I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that. But when we speak about these issues, we have to talk about them in a context. The teaching of the church, for that matter, is clear and I am a son of the church, but it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time."

“We have to find a new balance; otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel. The proposal of the Gospel must be more simple, profound, radiant.”

Pope Francis deplores “an economy of exclusion and inequality,” noting that “such an economy kills.” How can it be news, he asked, that the stock market loses two points but not that an old man dies from the cold?

“Let us seek to build a society and economy where the good of human beings, rather than money, is at the center,” the pope says.

This is pretty scary imo!

I just watched the EWTN showing of President Trump’s visit to Pope Francis and they both had big smiles at times. The Pope was very warm and friendly as was our President and family. Protocol is the same for all visiting the Pope. The ladies respected the protocol of wearing black and a scarf on their head. How anyone, media included, could find fault or criticize the President and family is way beyond me! The narrator of the whole thing did a wonderful job of explaining it all. Thanks again EWTN for the great coverage of it. God Bless, Memaw

Is it possible to have one thread bare of American political labels or political commentary?

As is Obvious, the Pope is a Catholic, so is Melania.
Let’s focus on the people here. Jump on the other thread if anyone feels the need to throw American political labels around

Sheesh.

Or jump on the prayer thread for Melania and pray.

One would hope an individual’s audience with God’s Man on Earth is a deeply moving and personal carthatic experience, devoid, for half an hour of secular issues.
Thats the Pope’s first job, bring an individual to God.

Hi, yes and Laudato Si had a lot of other things in it.
True enough. Like paragraph 155
Learning to accept our body, to care for it and to respect its fullest meaning, is an essential element of any genuine human ecology. Also, valuing one’s own body in its femininity or masculinity is necessary if I am going to be able to recognize myself in an encounter with someone who is different. In this way we can joyfully accept the specific gifts of another man or woman, the work of God the Creator, and find mutual enrichment. It is not a healthy attitude which would seek “to cancel out sexual difference because it no longer knows how to confront it”
Which goes along with many of other Pope Francis’ statements about how terrible “Gender Theory” is.

I think it’s kind of pointless to compare which president had the “warmer” relationship with Pope Francis based on our limited information about a couple of extremely brief meetings. 🤷

I’m happy whenever a president meets with the pope. My prayer is always that they take to heart whatever the pope tells them and that it bear fruit in the way they lead the country.
From looking at the pictures of Trump, his smiling joyful face, and from his words, I think Trump was deeply moved being in the Pope’s presence. I have not seen him so visibly touched in encounters with others.

I would say it’s a taxing trip for anyone, jet lag plus travel plus always being on point and happy for the press. Poor guy wouldn’t even be able to let his guard down for a minute in public. Imagine the photo op if he scratched his bum unconsciously.

In some photos he looks to be struggling a bit. Its early days. I bet his team will address the issue and give him tools to deal with his office, physically.

They say being a leader ages a person so fast. Brown hair to grey hair at record speed.

Australias pollies are always out walking or running around Canberra. Get that energy up and kick those endorphins in. I say it’s the same the globe over.
Agree. President Obama grayed considerably over just his first four years. It is a taxing job.

It seems that way to me, too. I pray that the outside reaction reflects something happening interiorly. And that it is able to take root and remain rather than withering quickly away.

I chuckled at comments on the Holy Father’s expression; for several years now, I’ve thought he has a dour face when, I don’t know, “at ease”? But when he starts talking his face lights up!

Gratuitous slamming. :(/QUOTE

Really??? God Bless. Memaw

I merely asked Sy Noe a question!! Do you not see the question marks?? How can that be slamming? How would he know if Trump needs attention and glory!!! I imagine we ALL want others to like us, nothing wrong with that! I think if we would just stop trying to find fault with every word, we would enjoy these threads a bit more!! God Bless, Memaw
