I was just about to post this too. What makes you say the story is a fake?

Here’s little more info from Fr. Rosica:

"A Vatican spokesman confirmed the telephone call but would not comment on the conversation’s content.

“It’s between the Pope and the woman,” said the Rev. Thomas Rosica, a consultant for the Vatican press office.

Rosica said that any comments made by the Pope should not be construed as a change in church doctrine. “The magisterium of the church is not defined by personal phone calls.”

The Pope told Jacqueline Sabetta that the Vatican would be discussing its Communion restrictions, according to her husband.

Pope Francis and other top Vatican leaders have said the issue will be discussed at a gathering of bishops from around the world in October. The Pope was not pre-empting that debate, according to Rosica.

“To draw any conclusions about this particular situation, that the Pope may be setting an agenda, is incorrect,” he said. “The Pope is first and foremost an esteemed pastor, and dealing with a human situation is always complex.”

That part is true enough, but if the Pope apparently ignores church teaching, that’s a huge issue. On re-reading the story I realize it depends entirely on what the woman and her husband told the media, which may or may not be what the Pope actually said, or maybe how she interpreted what the Pope said, based on what the Pope thought was the true issue. I’m trying to give his holiness the benefit of the doubt here.

I’m divorced (not remarried) and have always been treated fairly. I have never considered that I should be treated with more compassion/understanding but I guess that’s because no one has held it against me.

I would be very cautious about what is in print.

this story is much ado about nothing, as certainly the Holy Father deserves more confidence, and by Faith God and our lady protect him.

The only reason this story was released is because we haven’t heard any Pope Caricature Headliners lately because he’s been talking about Satan and Hell.

The POPE is a good shepherd, and he has been doing good, and BECAUSE of that, by principalities and the powers, we see bad behavior by unrepentant Catholics in these articles collaborating with these Journalists.

This is just more of a series of demonically influenced journalism, to get the sheep to doubt their true Shepherd.
God is in charge, and even if the case were that the Pope said these things were true, (which I don’t believe is the straightforward account) it is still irrelevant to what we think, of any Prelate, and what is true about divorce and communion.

The couple in question in the second article can clearly be seen as disobedient obstinate catholics with an agenda as admitted through direct quotes of themselves.

They admit they: Do not go to Mass on Sundays, cohabitation, refusal to listen to their confessor, calumny or detraction against the priest who faithfully instructed them; exploitation of a phone call made in good faith

The woman is shady and untrustworthy by the way she treated the parish priest. She continues her report of joy, by GOSSIPING against her confessor
She also revealed an interesting fact: the priest who apparently refused to administer Communion to her, no longer exercises his ministry. He asked to be dispensed from his obligations as priest so he could get married.

We are supposed to believe their WORD, and take on the story, when one can see with one’s own eyes the malice committed by the woman, who exploited and abused the Holy Father’s reputation through taking advantage of a private correspondence.

If someone is steeped in mortal sin, then what is it to them, to exaggerate the truth, or even lie doing so in order to justify themselves in their sin.

We don’t base our Faith on, everything WE SEE, it is not good to even consider the Pope is worthy of suspicion in regards to his abilities in his Office. He can make errors or prudential mishaps, but not in the manner of reports such as these.

A child of God, should yawn whenever one is pestered to go against their parents.

It sounds like the woman, doesn’t even value COMMUNION that much by the end of the Article.
“This received too much public attention. He told me to go and take Communion in a different parish,** but now I won’t be able to go anywhere.**”
So, your longing for the Eucharist, can wait , because of the public attention??

Really, charity doesn’t require us to be stupid and lack common sense, in seeing through such people.
Both the husband and wife are malicious. The only facts we have about the Pope and the priest are the anecdotes from them, *"hey we don’t go to Church every Sunday, by the way that priest who refused us communion, he left the church and lost his faith, so ha! and the Pope himself said we can keep shacking up without any annulment, and just go to another parish to receive! " *

I don’t believe in couching words, or adopting the current day disposition of political correctness and calling it charity. This is more of the same attempts by dissident Catholics who try to use the Eucharist as a weapon or political device to undermine Christ the King.

This is also an attempt to prevent the sheep from giving thanks for Pope Francis who has done a lot of good, and whose young papacy has led many Catholics to pause and reflect on the blessing the Catholic Church has in having perpetual successors to Peter, as an instrument of humility and self denial.

I read with interest this recent article:

telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/the-pope/10782508/Pope-Francis-tells-divorced-woman-she-should-be-allowed-Communion.html

Our dear Pope called a remarried woman just to tell her that she should be allowed to partake in Holy Communion.
This is silly. Even though it admits to be hearsay (“He reportedly told her…”), what does it actually say he said? That remarried couples can receive communion? The article doesn’t even claim this! It claims that he said, “A divorcee who takes communion is not doing anything wrong.” That is absolutely in line with Church teaching. Your post is patently false given the words of the article itself. Please stop spreading such falsehood.

The Church has no power to change its “stance” on divorce, for it cannot contradict Christ’s words in scripture. Benedict XVI and Muller, current head of the CDF, have already acknowledged this. But given the problems in Germany, I would not be surprised to see the Church explain this fact explicitly (again).
Not sure if this is 100% accurate, but if it is then I’m glad we’re beginning to treat divorcees wth greater compassion and understanding! 😃
Sanctioning fornication is not “treating people with greater compassion and understanding.” All it is doing is ignoring their immortal soul and human dignity. Essentially it is treating them like animals. This is the same “compassion and understanding” advocated by those who would euthanize the elderly, infirm, and terminally ill.

The phone call existed but nobody here in Argentina believes thats what the Pope said. In fact, he talked to the divorced husband and he is the one making the claims, on behalf of his current (legal) wife . Since I am in a similar situation, I was quite interested in the story and couldnt find any reliable evidence whatsoever. What the HF did say, apparently, is that the vatican will be studying several topics related to marriage, which is no news at all to all of us.

ill.
It is certainly not silly. The pope either had the phone conversation or he did not. If he did say what he is reported to have said the Church is in for upheaval. Benedict was looking for a way, reexamining the discipline, because so many are effected.

The theology of the Orthodox, a church with valid sacraments and apostolic succession is different from the Catholics. They say the Church is given the power of binding and loosing and this applies to marriage.

If Francis had this conversation it would not be surprising. It goes with his style.

How? By putting their souls at risk of eternal damnation? There’s nothing “compassionate” or “charitable” about that.
The Church views Charity as something very different than what the world views it as.
Reprimand and rebuke should be accepted as healing remedies for vice and as conducive to good health. From this it is clear that those who pretend to be tolerant because they wish to flatter-----those who thus fail to correct sinners-----actually cause them to suffer supreme loss and plot the destruction of that life which is their true life.” - St. Basil the Great

This wouldn’t be the first time the media has taken things out of proportion. I hope they did not change the Church teaching on divorce, anyone who receives Our Lord in the state of mortal sin commits sacrilege.

👍

IF the Pope called a divorced woman about receiving the Sacraments…he would be right in telling her that it is perfectly acceptable for her to receive Communion.

Divorce is not a sin. It is simply not recognized by God and the Church. A divorced person who has not remarried and is living alone is in no danger of sin.

I certainly would not jump to any conclusions until an authoritative statement has been released. Assuming the article is accurate, though, then the fact is that a divorced woman, remarried under a civil ceremony, was told by the Pope that she should be allowed to receive Communion.

Of course, it is sinful to break a marriage - but the fact is that we are all sinners, and we all need the salvation of Jesus. If the Pope really did say what the article claims he did, i’d say that it was a beautiful act of love.

Totally agree. How could she be allowed to receive communion.
